Re: Need to replace calypso washer...sugestions
The mold problem is from too much detergent usage. Manufacturers recommend only 2 tablespoons of detergent per wash to avoid any mold issues. It may not say it in the owners manual but it is from the manufacturers themselves.

first you have to wash the mold away the next solution is to go to home depot and pick up a product called affresh it cleans out the inside of your washer this is a once every 1-3 months product that will also prolong the life of your washer and all front loaders ive also found that this works great in top loaders as well
This is Joyce
I sell major appliances
I would recommed that you buy a maytag or ge I sell more ge appliances but they are not made as well as the maytag, the lg has made a good name for themselves but you have to first of all find out who works on them. that is the most important thing, and always, always get exstended warranty, you will use it believe me. I have a front loader and I bought a warranty and I have used it in 4 years 4 times. I have not had bad mold because I keep mine cleaned out, you have to clean them more than the others, the front loaders where the tray pulls out you have to take the tray out and spray clorox up in their and get tooth brush and scrub it about once every 3 months to get mold off, if not you will have problems, also if you dont want odors put about 1 cup of clorox in machine and run cycle with no clothes in it. that will clean it. dont let anyone tell you they wont mold, just leave the door cracked open a little so air can get into the machine and it wont smell so bad. but they are awsome I would not trade mine for the world. go for it.
You are not alone with this problem. Seems that that everyone of the front loader washers exhibit similar characteristics .. the short story is that in order for a washing machine to be a front loader, they need to be water tight .. being water tight, they are also air tight and herein lies the problem.. any water left over from a wash cycle will sit in gaskets , nooks and crannies and eventually develop mold or mildew.. here is a link to product you may find that solves your problem http://www.smellywasher.com/
or.. you can use the AFRESH tablets sold in Home Depot and other home improvement stores.. in either case.. these products will help rid that musty mold out of your washer..
