If wolf68's suggestion doesn't work...

Rule #1 -- when troubleshooting, divide and conquer.

Connect the pc serial port to another PC with a null-modem cable, run hyperterm on both to verify that the PC serial port is OK.

If that works, then you've got a problem on your radio & start researching that. If PC-to-PC doesn't work, try connecting to your radio from the other PC.

Run your batteries on a battery reconditioner analyzer, this can give you a diagnosis and recondition the battery.
Also, with Impres batteries you can use an Impres battery reader to find out more info about the battery including capacity, age and number of charge cycles.

If the battery is under 1 year old it is still under warranty. Contact your dealer.

Best regards.

Can i clone motorola xts 2500 radio to a motorola mtx 8250 ls radio

No, they will not clone. The radios are two separate models with two separate programming softwares. If the radios are the same bandsplit, they can be programmed to match one another using the appropriate softwares.

Best regards.

Why do i get an error window when i press read on the program for the radio????

If the interface cable has a serial port connector, and you need to use a USB --> Serial Port adapter to connect to your computer; it may be the source of the problem. The cheaper USB --> Serial adapters have issues with timings that the serial port protocols rely on. You may have luck by reducing the speed of the serial port to something like 19200, 14400, 9600, 4800 or even as low as 2400 baud. Make sure that the adapter name (COM1, AUX1, COM2, AUX2 , etc.) is the SAME one you're telling the program to use to access the radio's memory and the port's parity, number of stop bits and error checking type match the program.

Additionally, different radio manufacturers use different methods to set the radio's memory up to be read and / or written. Make sure the radio is ready to be read and the program is trying to read - not write (and vice versa).

If you're still having issues, please reply and provide the radio brand and model, interface cables and adapters, and program software and computer Operating System.

I use a Motorola XTS 5000 2 way radio at work. It displays a message "Key Failure"' and intermittenly beeps. It will not allow transmissions. Can I program a fix or does it need to be repaired?

It needs to be looked by a programming technician in a radio shop. "Key Failure" means that a secure encryption key has not been loaded into the radio and you have set the switch for using encryption to the "on" position. This switch is located under the channel switch on top of the radio and in your case it should be set to the "O" position and not the "O" with the line through it. The XTS radios can be programmed to retain the encryption key when the battery is removed OR to keep the key even if the battery is removed, so it depends on how your radio was programmed as well.

I have a motorola xts 2500 800 mghz. Im gettin a circle with a line through it symbol on the dispay on 1 talkgroup only and getting a "key fail" when I push to talk. Any ideas?

The circle with a line through it emblem indicates your radio is scrambling the channel chosen. Your key fail message likely indicates your radio has a programming problem or other problem requiring dealer assistance.

Best regards.

I have a motorola XTS2500I Digital radio through my fire dept. I have the software to program the radios but my problem is that the computer can't read the radio. I have tried all the USB ports with the...

The XTS Series of radios are very professional - the person responsible for programming your "Fire Radios" was obviously successful - or you wouldn't have one assigned to you. My advice is that you get that person to make the changes you are looking to make. I suspect your version of software is older than the version currently in the radio - and if you had a real reason to have this software, you would have a valid subscription - and hence, the most up-to-date version. Just exactly what are you trying to change on your radio? Are they authorized changes?

Those are the main questions I would be posing.....
