Try this simple solution first. We'll reset the network card IP addresses...

1) As Ekse said, Press Start, Run, type in CMD and press ok.

2) Now type ipconfig /release & press enter

3) When that responds, type ipconfig /renew & press enter

4) If all is well, you should now have addresses assigned to your cards.

Press exit.

Hope that helps!

Hi,
Connect the router, to the laptop using the network cable. If you donnot have a spare network cable , bypass the router and connect to the cable.
If the system goes to the internet , this would confirm the machine is ok and the internet is working fine.
If that is true: Then the wireless profile is corrupt and you need to make a new wirless profile.

Use different browsers, try firefox, if two browsers (IE and firefox) do not work then check your connection, disable and enable your local or wireless connection to refresh it. try connecting again. If it still will not connect, restart Wireless Zero in your services. To do this go to control panel, admin tools, services, a new window will appear with a list of services, highlight Wireless Zero and restart it (there's a link) ...try once again. Dont forget to try to power down your wireless router....

these kind of problems are best solved by actually coming over to the house and fixing the problem, its hard for me to start giving you instructions on what to check and what todo.

well try refreshing your connection.. heres how

press start -> run -> type in the box CMD

in the black window that just opened on the laptop, type in ipconfig

can you post me everything you see there?

Heres a example what would show up

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig
    Windows IP Configuration

    Ethernet adapter Integ:
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ********.fi
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 91.******.241
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.*******.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 91.*******.1
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>

Are you connecting by wireless?

Accessing to the free network in the hotel may have messed up wireless network setting on your laptop. Probably the laptop loaded automatically settings for the hotel network , and now does not connect to your usual home network.
I doubt removing the battery may have anything to do with this.
If you are connecting by wireless check that you have the right encryption key set up, and that you are connecting to the right network, not automatically to some neighbor's unprotected network.
If you are using an external wireless adapter remove it and put it back, eventually also reinstall the drivers.
Disable the firewall or test firewall settings.
One of the procedures above should sort out the problem.

Before doing the rest try turning off computer , removing network adapter (if it is not internal) then restart and check.

Even if there is signal the network may not be working properly. Probably there is limited or no connectivity.
First ensure that is not related to firewall, and disable it , check your internet security etc.
Then ensure you are on the right network with the right password, and on the right network. Go to 'display available wireless networks', clicking either on network card software or on the small wireless icon near to the clock. Disconnect and connect to the right network, ensure you have your network key.
After this, the simplest thing you can do is going into control panel/installed devices, removing wireless network adapter from device list and installing it again. This will fix many troubles with TCP IP and other internet settings.
Go to control panel and click on system properties
Display the hardware device list using the tab in system property window
Remove wireless adapter from displayed devices.
Click apply or ok in device list window
    Restart computer.
At restart the wireless adapter will reinstall by itself.
After installing you will be asked to select network and provide network key again.

What do I need to use the internet when I visit france on holiday/with my laptop.

Many hotels in Europe offer free WiFi connections and the hotels will provide you with the necessary sign-on information when you check in.

Your computer should automatically find the connection then all you have to do is sign on with the information the hotel provided.

In addition, many hotels also have business centers where free computers are available which provide instant access to the internet. In those cases I recommend using the hotel computer to protect information that you have on your laptop.

Hacking is a major problem in Europe and often hackers will have locked onto your computer within seconds after you have logged in...especially on public WiFi networks.

This can and does happen even on "secure" sites. You need to be aware of this and avoid accessing any websites where you have confidential information.

Once you return from France, I would suggest running an immediate full system anti-virus scan and I would change all of the passwords in all of the accounts I accessed while I was away.

I have an acer extensa 5620z and netgear dg834v5 modem/router. I can connect via ethernet, but even though i have set the router without security, the laptop detects the wireless network, but won't...

This is worked for me on Vista:
1. Goto Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click on your Wireless Connection "View Status".
3. Click on Propertes.
4. Uncheck the option that says "Internet Protocol Version 6"

When I did this, my wireless began working again.

Play online ps3 in hotel free wireless Internet n won't connect

I'm staying in a hotel and have free wi-fi and wired internet but I can not seem to get online. During the connection test the "obtain IP address" step is successful, however the next step "internet connection" fails. This is an unsecured network and does not require any wpa keys , and I don't think it requires an SSID. I had no trouble connecting my laptop.

I have an HP Laptop LAN connection will not connect to internet

The wireless modem you are connecting to is protected with a WEP key. You have to get the WEP key or find another wifi hotspot that is not protected.

You can also get a better antenna for your laptop to see if you can pull in another site.

X Box 360 can't connect in hotel room!

I figured it out! I am also in a hotel room with only ethernet...and can connect to the network but not to the internet. When I got onto the internet for the first time on my laptop, there was a hotel internet webpage that came up immediately. You have to click CONNECT for 24hrs; 48; 1 week etc. unfortunately for us, Xbox doesn't have a internet browser like the PS3 does. So we can not click CONNECT when we are attempting to connect on the 360. The only reason why I know this is correct is because my friend brought his PS3 to my hotel room and that hotel connect window popped up and immediately we were playing Modern Warfare 2 with "full bars"...Xbox should really add a download for a browser! Like 360 way more. Sorry guys!
