Toshiba Keyboard

Toshiba keyboard prob

By Jimmy NY - usenet poster

I've been given an old Sat Pro 430CDT to keep if I can fix it. I've traced
the problem to the keyboard which has had coffee spilt over it, some of
which appears to have seeped inside it. I've totally removed it from the
system and the notebook now works fine with a PS/2 keyboard plugged in. So
how can I clean the original notepad keyboard ? It seems to be a sealed
(sort of ) unit . Has anyone any suggestions - the only thing I can think of
is to soak it in some sort of cleaning agent, but what ?

For the liquid to have gotten in the keyboard, the laptop had to have
been open and thus was probably powered up at the time of the spill.  If
this is the case, the keyboard itself will need to be replaced.

Even if the system was not powered up during the spill, but subsequently
was turned on at all before the liquid had dried 100%, again the
keyboard would then be damaged and would need to be replaced.

Good luck!

message This is unknown. All I know is that with the original keyboard connected in,
nothing works (including an external keyboard), but with it extracted the
external is okay. The original when installed behaves erratically. like some
keys are stuck down ( i presume the coffee has shorted some of the paths on
the board.

So you are saying this sort of thing permanently damages the keyboard, if
the system has been power on with liquid in the keyboard ?

Thanks.

It's been suggested I try soaking it in clean water for a while and let it
dry for a week. I might give that a go first............... But I suspect
you are right

Don't soak it in some cleaning agent. Get a cleaner which won't attack
plastic or colour. Then get a earstick (the ones with cotton arround it),
dip it in the lotion and clean it with this. But if your keyboard if f*****
then this won't help and you need to buy a new keyboard from the
manifacture.

Head up :-)

It will be difficult to do this as the coffee appears to have seeped in
between the membrane and the metal backing plate which is permanently fixed
to the keyboard by paltic tags. the only way to clean it appears to allow
some cleaning agent in the same way the coffee went.
