Hi, Need more data of your aircon. Please check also on name plate / sticker on your unit. There should be information of BTU/H, Kcal/H, watt of cooling etc. 1TONR = 12.000 btu/h. 1 watt cooling = 3.41 BTU /H. From that you can check exact data of your air conditioner ( i call it 'aircon') tonnage.
Regards, vote please, Jay

I want to know tonage of ac

12,000 but/ton. If the 101 in your model is their tonnage (101÷12=8.4. its a 8 1/2 ton (5 ton and a 3 1/2 ton combined). That's probably it or very close. I could not look it up cause I don't know the maker of the unit.

How to know the tons of old ac unit from the model no?

36 is equal to 36000 btu. To find the ton divide by 12000 btu. 12000 BTU is a ton of refrigeration. This is a 3 ton unit.

I have an oddball question. What does a 3-ton A/C unit weigh? I know its not 3 tons.

Not every 3-ton unit weighs exactly the same - they differ in weight depending on how they were manufactured. Most 3-ton units weigh around 150 pounds (I would guess) give or take a few pounds.
The "3-ton" refers to the "cooling capacity" of the air conditioner.
It's actually 'slang' for 36,000 Btu.
Note; 12,000 btu equals 1 ton.
Hence a 24,000 Btu unit would be called a "2-ton unit," and a 12,000 Btu unit would be called a 1 ton unit.

Need to know how many tons this AC unit is

To find out the tonnage, I would need to see the model number. If you can go to the out door unit and write down the number or look for this in the numbers and letters. There are 12,000 btu's per ton of cooling. I don't know if you have a central unit or a window unit, but look for numbers like this. 018, is a 11/2 ton, 024 a 2 ton, 030 a 21/2 ton, 036 a 3 ton, 042 a 31/2 ton, 048, a 4 ton, they don't make a 41/2 ton, and it go's to 060 a 5 ton. This is the largest for a residential that is made. From there they make units for commercial buildings that start at 71/2 tons up to 350 ton's on 10,000' warehouses for wine storage and so on. This is larger then a train box car. You may want to write this down and keep it as most people have no idea how to tell, and now you do. Please don't forget to rate me as I know you will be kind. Let me know if you need my help for any thing.

DO NOT HAVE BTU LISTED ON AIRCONDITIONER FOR SERIES LP 109755 319Y SERVICE# M6X08F2A-B

Hi, I am not sure what you are wanting to know? If you want to know the size of the a/c tonnage wise, its 5,000 b t u's short of being a 1 ton unit. There is 12,000 b t u's of cooling per each ton. 2 tons would be 24,000 b t u's, 30, a 2 1/2 ton unit and so on. If this is not what you needed to know, please get back to me and let me know. Sincerely,

Need help on tonnage question

I would have an air conditioning contractor do a heat load calculation and give you and estimate. 3 ton may work if your insulation is good and your windows seal well. 4 ton may be too much and you won't get the humidity removal needed in Florida.
