Hi i recently got a NEC PlasmaSync 42MP4 42 inch 16:9 HDTV XGA Plasma TV Screen from a friend because it doesnt work properly. it has 4 black bars on the screen, 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top. between the one at the top there is a bar with colours running down it. these bars dont go past halfway. i took it apart yesterday to try and soulder up the chips on the ribbons, but this tv doesnt seem top have the same design as most plasmas. it has ribbons along the sides, top and bottom. there are about 3 large ribbons on the left, about 10 on the right and about 15 smaller ribbons on both the top and the bottom. these ribbons dont have the chips on the back which means i cant soulder it up. how can i fix this and what would it cost. would i need to buy new ribbons, notherboards??? would i be able to fi this myself??

You were thinking about the buffer circuits - those can be found only on LCD screens. In a plasma the pixels are commanded directly by the Y and Z -sus boards. so if you have horizontal lines on the screen that are badly controlled then it's surely the Y-sus board's fault - it has failed and you will have to replace it.
Unfortunately finding an Y-sus replacement board for your model of tv will be very difficult - i couldn't find one online. Try searching thru auction and other sites that deal in second hand stuff, in repair shops (some of them by tv's for parts), but a repair shop of a dealer would be my best bet.

If they are vertical then you should replace the Z-sus board. Yes, you must also match the board to the screen - there will be a small semi-adjustable resistor, clearly labeled for that; see here

Yes, i was referring to your NEC PlasmaSync 42MP4.

Follow the top and bottom connecting ribbons, they plug in it - it should be about middle right. Yes, that is all - the resistor is clearly marked on the board, look for it.

You need to pull the plastic casing in which they plug in, a little out to unlock the cable , then they will just slide out.

no, it needs a good cooling. it looks like that http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISu...

Yes, that should be it , but i'm not sure: check it yourself if the ribbons from the plasma panel plug, in your tv, in an identical looking one.

    OK.

I have a Nec Plasma Sync 42vp4g/s Monitor. I have connected only a video RCA on VIDEO 2, but the monitor is turning to black ( the stand-by light is still green ). Sometimes it makes some flashing showing...

Your video input on VIDEO 2 via the RCA jack is most likely composite analog signal (good old
obsolete NTSC), and the Television may be in High-Def mode, therefore not looking for, and
not understanding anything but an HDTV (digital, ATSC) signal.

Thin red line in middle of screen on nec 42 inch plasma monitor

I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago. While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V.. As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected. It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case; When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables. Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.

Black Bar on screen

You can try to check the connector on the address board on that area, but I'm 99% sure the plasma panel is defective.

NEC 42mpi plasma tv not working

Check the +170 volt  test point on the power board (not the power filter board, the one that the plug comes into) but the one to the right of that board. It has a 5v test point (TP +5v) , a +170 and a +70. I've found that the +170 transformer goes bad, and won't allow you to adjust the voltage using the pot screw.

Nec plasmasync 50MP2

Lol, I'm not a Guru but I am a Wiz, so I can help. Usually, those lines you see, are from the burning of a channel. It's when the plasma gases inside of the screen stick to the screen and don't come off, it's permanent. Unless your T.V. type has on the menu a Screen Burn Protection like a 50 inch Samsung I have. The only reason it burns is because bright white lines in front of a dark background. Usually HD channels have small icons so they don't stick in the screen, so unless it's under warranty, you can take it back, but if not, then sorry. You can't do anything with no warranty or receipt.
