Neptune MAH3000AWW Problems

I am having a problem with my Neptune front-loading washer. The washer made a groaning noise when engaging the motor to either agitate cloths or spin. I thought this was due to a worn out motor, so I purchased a used replacement motor. The washer still made the noise. I replaced the bearings in the outer washer-tub which were in pretty bad shape. I thought I found the problem, but the washer still groans when the motor engages and the motor labors to turn the tub under a full load, although I can turn the tub by hand. I unhooked the belt and the motor is making the noise. I either purchased a bad motor (it was a used motor off of ebay) or this motor is starting to go bad. It does turn back and forth, but it makes a groaning noise. I am trying to decide whether or not to throw in the towel or purchase a new motor upgrade that comes with a new control board ($200). Does this problem sound like a bad motor, or could I have something else wrong that is causing the motors go bad? I am mainly concerned that this is electrical. Replacing a bearing or motor is one thing, but diagnosing a problem with the control board is over my head.

When I replaced the bearings on the tub, I removed the inner tub and cleaned both the inner and outer tub. The tub spins freely by hand, but when under full load the motor strains to turn the tub and makes that moaning sound.

There is nothing trapped in the tub that is obstructing the turning of the basket. When I replaced the bearings on the tub, I removed the inner tub and cleaned both the inner and outer tub. The tub has always spun freely by hand, although there is some resistance and some sloshing from the fluid in the inner tub balance ring (CaCl2).

Hi,

If your washer motor has a starting capacitor, that might be the culprit. Starting capacitors are used to provide the initial push to kick start the motor.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The likelyness of two motors dieing leads me to believe It's a problem with the transmision. With the belt off How does it feel when you turn the input pulley by hand?(the pulley on the transmision not the motor). If I were you I would check out all the bearings and bushings in the tranny as you have stated you already found no obstructions. Hope this helps you out in your diagnosis.

There may be some obstacles that struck in the tub, without seeing we cannot analyse the problem and we cannot do trial and error method ,so better give it for service to the service center nearby .If you have warranty then go for because repairing by own may void warranty

A drain system for adapting the drain/extraction plumbing of a front-loading washing machine which includes an agitator drum mounted for rotation about a generally horizontal axis, means for driving the drum in rotation about the axis during the various cycles of the machine, and a drain pipe extending downward from the agitator drum and disposed to convey a water/suds mixture vacated from the agitator drum away from the drum. The system includes a conduit into which the water/suds mixture is conveyed from the drain pipe. The conduit is oriented generally horizontally with a first end of the conduit intersecting, and being in fluid communication with, the distal end of the drain pipe. The water/suds mixture, as it is channeled through the conduit, separates into a water component and a suds component floating on the water component. The system includes a water scavenger line and a suds duct, both of which diverge and extend from the second end of the conduit. A baffle is interposed in the system to occlude an upper portion of the water scavenger line so as to permit the water component of the mixture to enter the water scavenger line yet divert the suds component of the mixture into the suds duct.

It is not the motor, it is something stuck in the tub object trap, between the tub and the basket, usually the trap access is in the central lower part of the tub, you access from the back of the WM.

Coins and small objects get stuck in the drain pipe before they reach the button trap. Machine needs to be disassembled to remove them. Check the drain pipe, the button trap, and check for objects between tub and basket.

Tip

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

My Neptune washer model # MAH3000AWW has developed an excessively loud noise during spin cycle--what is wrong and how much to fix??

It sounds like the bearings in the rear outer tub have gone out. This is caused from using powder soap. ( It also happens with liquid sometimes) This is a common problem with front load washers. This is a also a very costly fix. You have to replace the whole outer tub assembly. To get an exact cost just call your local service tech and tell them what your problem is and they can give an idea how much it will be.
