Question about HP PC Desktops

1 Answer

Hello; I have just bought the 20" HPw2007v monitor which is excellent, but I have a small screen that pops up when I turn on which says `recommended settings 1680 x 1050-60Hz; current settings, 1024 x 768-60Hz: I have changed from my old 17" screen and the picture is therefore stretched and not in true perspective; can this all be corrected ? Thankyou, Martin Hadleigh

It's asking you to change the display settings to match the capability of the new monitor. You're seeing distortion because the monitor settings don't match what your video card is putting out.

Go to Start/Control Panel/Display then choose the Settings Tab.

Change the screen resolution to 1680x1050 by moving the slider to the right. Press OK and the screen will change. When it asks if you want to keep the settings, you have 15 seconds to accept them.

It's possible that your video card does not support the higher settings of your new monitor.

Your user manual's Chapter 4 discusses adjustments to the display properties by using the front panel buttons or the "My Display" software from your installation CD.

If you don't have the manual, you can download it here:

Change input timing for monitor when i can't do anything

Hi Austin
it sounds as though you have a problem with your graphics card drivers and your tv will not accept the lower resolution. Do you have another screen that you can connect to prove/disprove my theory? If your tv will not accept the lower resolution input then you need another screen to enable you to sort it out. Hope this is helpful.

My compaq monitor for my desktop turn on switch pops on and straight off need to replace switch

Hello,

This can be fixed. You have to open the monitor and reset the power switch so that it will press the power button within the monitor. BE CAREFULL!!!!!! Monitors can retain a nasty power shook even with the power cord unplugged. DO NOT TOUCH COILS OR WIREING DIRECTLY ATTACHED TO THE SCREEN BEFORE DEGAUSING THE MONITOR.

Good Luck

Sounds like the monitor menu is popping up. If so, it is not your computer but the monitor that is causing the problem. Is the monitor menu button stuck?

I bought a new computer and my existing Samsung 24 inch flat screen monitor doesn't work with it. I see 6 buttons on the front of my monitor but I don't know how they work. Unfortunately, if a manual came...

If you have the (white connectors) DVI cable correctly plugged into the computer, when you turn the computer on, it should recognize it and make the needed changes automatically. Maybe not if the PC was already on even though it's plug&play.

If you have the model number of the monitor, you can google for the manual.
