Question about HP Computers & Internet
It's asking you to change the display settings to match the capability of the new monitor. You're seeing distortion because the monitor settings don't match what your video card is putting out.
Go to Start/Control Panel/Display then choose the Settings Tab.
Change the screen resolution to 1680x1050 by moving the slider to the right. Press OK and the screen will change. When it asks if you want to keep the settings, you have 15 seconds to accept them.
It's possible that your video card does not support the higher settings of your new monitor.
Your user manual's Chapter 4 discusses adjustments to the display properties by using the front panel buttons or the "My Display" software from your installation CD.
