Question about Cambridge Audio Azur 640P Amplifier

1 Answer

Noise when i play my brand new cambridge 640 i get a high pitch sound similar to feed back that is noticable between tracks. It's less noticeable with dvds. I've checked speaker hookups and am using a new cambridge 640 cd player as well. I'm really frustrated since, i have checked my old cheap all in one stero and it is silent even on max. I'm using bose 301 speakers, also new and have checked the hookups several times but the problem exists with headphones plugged to the amp. It kind of sounds like a form of feed back so i double checked the plugs to make sure they are grounded well and are. Any suggestions would be welcome

You didn't say whether it was one or both channels. The word to describe the noise when using a turntable, back in the days, is called Acoustic Vibration. Your issue is not that. I can be an amplifier oscillating, for the high pitched sound and the crackling could be DC Offset*meaning a damaged amplifier) If you need further assistance, or would like to inquire about a repair, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Where can I get a service manual?

If you search Google there are a couple of sites offering it. But it might also be similar to the 640 version, which there is a free PDF of it, that is much easy to access than the other sites offering the 650. Plus some of these (650) sites are old so the links to the file might be absent, or have virus infections.

Just make certain that the connections are all good with no wires touching. If it still doesn't perform after that return it to where you bought it and get a new replacement or your money back.

The left channel in my Cambridge Azur 640 amplifier keeps cutting out. Wierdly I can often 'shock' it back to life by quickly turning up the volume a lot. Any ideas?

have the volume control cleaned by a spray of electronic contact cleaner. If the carbon coating material is already wiped-out due to use, have the part replaced

NAD C350 stuck on "auxiliary" input

hey,

I have noticed that this nad c3xx series may have a general problem with the input switching chip. There are more post here on fixya where people have similar problems as you have.

For a few year ago, I repaired a fault that had close to the same symptoms, it was a cambridge azur xxx amplifier, in this cambridge it was a defect smd component that they used as a input multiplexer.

I look forward to repair this fault in the future. Nowadays i alway collect schematics and create repair e-books and/or repair movie guides in the fault finding process.

use good brand contact cleaner from radio shack or other electronics store and apply spray in the slider of defective channel and move each slider up and down many times.by the way check cabels which feed bad channel for a good condition and test these channel with the good cabel of good channel to confirm that the trouble in channel itself.after all if it is hopeless pass the mixer to service center to fix it.
