System restore doesn't work

I have the dreaded crcdisk.sys problem. I tried repairing Vista with the supplied tool. No luck. I resorted to the system restore tool. No luck.

Acer support site said to bring into Best Buy for servicing.

Are there any options before I spend money?

I have vaio vgn-fw390. my lab-top can not hibernate neither in windows nor in linux. i'll thank you if you solve my problem

Try running a system restore and restore your system back to an previous date when your hibernate is working.

Open System Restore by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking System Restore.? If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Note: Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. System Restore will restart your computer.

Or Try

sometimes the BCD file may have issues.

You can try this to fix the BCD file.

1. Run CMD.EXE as administrator

2. Run the following command: bcdedit -enum all

Look for "Resume from Hibernate" in the output from the command above(example below):

Resume from Hibernate

---------------------

identifier {3d8d3081-33ac-11dc-9a41-806e6f6e6963}

device partition=C:

path \Windows\system32\winresume.exe

description Windows Vista (TM) Enterprise (recovered)

inherit {resumeloadersettings}

filedevice partition=C:

filepath \hiberfil.sys

pae Yes

debugoptionenabled No

3. Once you have found it, copy the value for identifier (in this example - {3d8d3081-33ac-11dc-9a41-806e6f6e6963})

4. Run the following command: bcdedit /deletevalue {3d8d3081-33ac-11dc-9a41-806e6f6e6963} inherit

5. Test hibernation.

When you boot the laptop blank screen comes

Your problem sounds a little bit different. I can't even get to the login screen. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing. Task Manager will not appear. The installation of Vista worked fine for the first couple of months so I know that all of the hardware and drivers were at one time working beautifully.

When booting into safe mode I see crcdisk.sys (the last driver in the list) loads and then the screen tries to go to the GUI. This is where my computer seems to be executing something like:

int i = 5;
int hangForever;
While (true)
{
try
{
hangForever = i / 0;
}
catch
{ /* 2nd verse same as the first */ }
}

All of my hard drives have had their file systems check with chkntfs. All hard drives work with the install disk.
