It seems like it is overheated. make sure nothing is blocking the fans. even if the fans aren't covered, it seems like it was over heated in the past. if it wont turn on even when the vents aren't covered, the device is permanently damaged and can only be fixed by opening up the projector.

Toshiba TDP-P9 Lamp time reset

Hi,
I had sleepless nights with my customers TDP-P9 projector where I changed the lamp.
The lamp timer resetting gave me headache but now I finally solved the right combo:
1: Unplug the power cord
2: Hold down 'On/standby' 'Input' and 'up arrow'
3: While keeping the buttons pressed, insert the power cord and wait for the projectors led's to flash briefly and then power button to keep illuminated and then starting to blink.
4: Release the buttons and power on, it should now have 0 hours in the timer.

The amber led labeled lamp lit up on my optoma ds303 and the picture disappeared. I replaced the original lamp with an after market lamp I purchased online. It worked for 2hours or so then the amber lamp...

the reason that it turns on without hitting the power button is that it thinks it's still in cooldown mode. while it's on, check the lamp hours through the menu. if it's close to 2000 hours (or the inside of the lamp is blackened or bulging), replace it. after market lamps never seem to last that long. if the fans stay on when the lamp goes off, it could also be the colorwheel. listen for chirping. if it chirps, it's the colorwheel.

Blinking red lamp light

blinking red light normally only occurs when lamp needs replacing. one thing to try other than replacing the lamp is resetting the lamp used hours timer (page 33), and if this solves the flashing light you may get some more hours out of your bulb http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/ConsumerProductSupport/Manuals/projectors/MT500.pdf The wheel noise is supposed to be normal and an element of the design - don't think they thought that one through too well. Saying that, if it is all the time and painfully loud then something (possibly the bearing or the housing that the bearing sits in) needs bending back or replacing - toshiba do not suggest any long term solution to the problem at all. Hope this helps please bother toshiba about this, and it may help stop them selling unfinished designs. We must all fight for a better future etc. etc. etc. ;) Hope this helps :)
