Usually with a Ghost restore you have to create a CD or DVD to boot it up. That boot CD should tell you to go to e. to read the information created from the backup file.

When I run the maxtor 93073u6 as a slave - it kills my cd drive and When I remove it the cd drive comes back I have tried everything I can. Help!

Run the Hard drive using one cable with duel main and slave capability and the CDROM drive give it its own cable ising the second IDE cable as the master for the CDROM drive. Isolate them. Making sure one is master and set to accept a slave drive using one cable for both hard drives and one for the CDROM drive. Try that and see if this assisted you. Do not forget to vote John

How do I make use of a Maxtor Hard Drive. Should it have a disc to instal?

Dear shirley403

Yes, you need an operating system disk if you use the Maxtor hard disk as the main patision to your computer.
but, if you only use it to backup drive, set the jumper to slave.
If you are using external cassing, jumper settings depending on the situation, try to enter the master jumper setting,
if it fails in effect, put to slave or cable select

hopefully this can help...

I want to add another hard drive and need to know how to set the jumpers on my maxtor 90645d3 please help.ty

if you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

DiamondMax 21 80-GB ATA/100 Hard Drive didn't get recognized as 1st drive or 2,3. do i need any software.

Use a partition manager to see if the drive is recognized. If it is not recognized, you may not have the jumper setting correct. If it is a master drive, set the jumper for master drive. same for slave or cable select

Maxtor 20gb slave probs

on the IDE or "Connector" Side Of The hard disk there should be little peices of plastic with metal cenectors in them that close a circut between two pins there are two well used ways to set up a slave.. the main way that the manufactures say is the easiest is to set to cable select or "CS" the other way is to set to "SLAVE" or "SL" and that will allow you to use the second hard disk.. by the way make sure not to connect it to the same cable as the cd ,dvd or other wise known as the optical drive's cables... it will greatly decreasy that hard drives performance.

Pin settings

There are four Jumper settings on a Maxtor:

(got it from http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-32378-Windows-XP-Home--No-boot-device-help.html)

posted by by mr.smit:

"The 2nd row, is for DS(Master): only 1 drive in PC, or the drive that you want to boot up from.
The 3rd row, is CS Enabled: Cable select, the computer desides wich harddisk is master and wich one is slave
The 4th is cap limit: windows cannot run on harddisks that are to big, like 300gb, so putting jumper on cap limit (capacity limit) makes it smaller for windows to use it.
The 5th row has no use, or i don't know what it does, either of that 2."

I would like to add about the DS (Slave) setting. It is used if there is another drive present on the system which you want to boot from. It will become a spare Hard Disk.

Here is a picture of a maxtor drive indicating where to find model number and jumper settings.
