Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Desktop frozen I was working on my computer last night in several different windows. I went to open another one and it wouldn't work. The windows that I already had open are still functional. However, if I try to paste and copy something out of one of them, like a video, it won't work. I also can't get links to open that are inside of my emails. When I try to do this a little icon pops up. It looks like the Yahoo Y icon only it's real small. I have tried acessing everything on my desktop screen from documents to pictures to trouble shooting but nothing works. I have not tried to shut down my computer because I am afraid I will not be able to get back on.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have a Sony VGC-RC310G desktop computer. Two nights ago, I was downloading updates for windows, from the Microsoft website. I turn it off when i went to bed, and restarted the following morning, only...

So, your description said that you turned off the computer during software update process, that sounds not good at all. Updates need to run to completion, or major failure happens.

You did not mention the version of Windows that you are using, so help is limited.

BE aware that a system restore means all data will be overwritten and lost. I suggest that you extract all data before you do anything. remove the hard drive and hook it up to a good computer, via USB and get all of your files and settings.

The machine probably has the restore files on the D:\drive.

Hp desktop won't boot

Firstly how on earth did it get hit with lightening? i have several computers in my house none of which have been hit with lightening during a storm.

secondly it sounds like some of the components are damaged i would try the different components in different machines to rule them out if certain components are damaged you will have to replace them.

Power light blinking

if the power just shuts off for no reason when booted up,it may be the power source is on the way out ,it will work for a while, but keeps crashing, thats the first thing to replace
also make sure you hear the fans working
if it overheats it has a safty shutoff ,
you can also use a house fan, aimed inside the computer while open, to rule out power source

hi carlogb,

1) dissconnect any external hardware like usb devices, modems, card reader, etc and try to restart windows.

2) If 1st step doesnt works, open the chasis and check all the cables are connected properly or not. Reseat all the cables if possible.

3) If 2nd step doesnt work, remove the cards like lan card or any other pci cards from the motherboard and restart computer again.

hi,
you can try restoring ur system to time when it was working fine, and please try it in safe mode

  1. To be safe, backup any important files before restoring from a restore point.
  2. Close any software windows that are open.
  3. Click Start c00847244.gif , All Programs , Accessories , System Tools , and then System Restore . The "Restore system files and settings" window opens.
  4. Select Choose a different restore point , and click Next .
  5. Select a date and time from the list of available restore points and click Next . All affected system files will be added, removed, or changed to the same versions that were in the computer's system file configuration on the selected date.
  6. Click Finish in the "Confirm your restore point" window.
  7. Click Yes in the confirmation message that opens.
  8. The computer should shut down and turn back on automatically after the restoration completes.
