GE clothes dryer,model DPXR483EA1WW

Hi Cerfer, My clothes dryer did not turn on when I pressed the on button. This is the first time this has happened. I made sure the door was closed securely.I had just dried a load of towels prior to placing the next few things in the dryer. I will appreciate your help. Thanks, Jessica

Most likely your high temperature cutout has tripped. When that happens, the dryer will quit and when it cools down and resets, you can use again. This generally is caused from a lack of airflow due to some sort of blockage in the vent. Check the vent where it goes out of the house where the
small flapper is to see if lint has accumulated, blocking venting of the dryer. Hope this will help.

How do you dry clothes in this machine please

A fairly common problem! The official instructions are

Before using your dryer, wipe the dryer drum with a damp cloth to
remove dust from storing and shipping.
1. Load clothes loosely into the dryer and close the door. Do not
pack the dryer. Allow space for clothes to tumble freely.
2. Turn the Cycle Control knob to the recommended cycle for the type of load being dried. Use the Energy Preferred Automatic Setting (,) to dry most heavyweight and medium weight loads. See "Drying, Cycle, and Temperature Tips."
3. Select a temperature setting on models with a Temp/Fabric selector. The cycle descriptions include temperature setting suggestions.
4. Push the START button.

Stopping and Restarting
You can stop your dryer any time during a cycle.
To stop your dryer
Open the dryer door or turn the Cycle Control knob to OFE
NOTE: The Cycle Control knob should point to an Off area when
the dryer is not in use.
To restart your dryer
1. Close the door.
2. Select a new cycle and temperature (if desired).
3. Press START

Clothes dryer tub does not turn

make this test and fix it. Merry Christmas
1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).
Belt

Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time. If you hear the motor running but it does not tumble it is most likely the belt.

Motor

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out.

Remove the belt.

Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

Dryer won't start

Try 2 things to see what has happened.

1st listen for a click from the door switch just as the door opens or closes. (No click = no start)

2nd reach in and rotate the drum by hand just a little bit making sure you hear the motor also turn. Then try to restart the dryer.

If rotating the drum enabled you to start the dryer the motor switch is sticking.

I don't know how to use my whirlpool dryer

Add clothes, close door securely, make sure it latches, select a cycle (timed dry, permanent press, etc.) select a heat setting ( low heat, high heat, or air) a push the start button. You will also want to make sure the lint filter is cleaned between each load. The lint filter will be either on the top of the machine under a little door or inside the machine at the bottom of the front.
