52 inch jvc projection tv, cant get the whole movie...

i cant get any movie to fit the screen, even when i play games on it the games and movies are way too big for the 52 inch screen. i am missing the top and bottom of the movies and games and i dont know how to fix that. does anybody know how, its not the dvd player ive tried everything it seems.
