How do i get my computer to use my external hard drive which i just installed

Which Operating system are you currently using? By default XP/Vista/7 should have generic drivers sufficient for using the device as external storage, To Check and make sure the drive is being properly recognized simply double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop if using windows XP. Or in Vista/Windows 7, click on the Start Button and then scroll over to Computer and Click. the hard drive should be listed in there. Take note of the drive letter . If you'd like to save items to it simply save to the new drive ( when within the program of your choice, Word, Windows Media Player etc ) by selecting the new drive in the "Save To" Window. ( Be Default most windows systems should store all information on the C:\ Drive ) your new external drive should be listed with a different letter ( F:\ G:\ etc )

Plugged in an usb to ata/atapi bridge(ext HD)

There are a couple of possiblities but first you have to try the external hard drive into another computer, if this works then you may have a problem with USB drivers or the IRQ

if the external hard drive didnt work with other computer, then it is possible that the ext hard drive does not have working partition and or a logical drive,

to check this right click you computer icon then click Manage.

On the left side select Disk Management, then you should be able to see all your harddrives even the cd rom drive from there right click and create partion for any un partitioned drive.

Operating system ex mce

Is this a USB connection? Try a different USB port. If it still won't work, go to: MY COMPUTER: PROPERTIES: DEVICE MANAGER. See what it says in there about USB DRIVERS and HARD DISC DRIVERS.

Won't boot up

the only way to back up yr file is by using an external drive say flash or or external hard drive or u can as well remove the hard drive from the system that refuses to start then connect it as slave to a working one. then u can do ur normal copy and paste.
if yu have a second working system i tell yu how to conect this one as slave. but i think we can make yr system start. i dont believe in systems not coming on.just tell me exactly what yr problem is i promise u we could make it come on now.
thank u
expecting to hear from u

Pover up trouble

sounds like something is drawing down on your 12 volt supply drives or on board regulators. Try it without the drives connectged, and see if you can get the system to boot up(you'll just get a notice that your drives are unavailable, but you'll already know that, right?
