We own a Sony FWD-50PX2 television. A few weeks ago it would not turn on. The power is going to the television. When you try to turn the tv on you can hear it pop and the red light showing it is off will flip to green and then turn back to red. We would like to just repair the TV as it is a very nice television set. We thought possible power supply, but it is trying to turn on. Any help you can give to help correct the problem would be great.

SOURCE: red light flashes 8 times

The red LED blinking 8 times is an error code for the service technician. There is nothing you, the consumer , can do to remedy this problem. Your set will have to be brought in to an authorized Sony repair center.

SOURCE: Sony FWD-42PV1 -

I diagnosed the same problem on my FWD-42pv1 as a problem on the Y-SUS board. The fuse on that board was blown, and the board itself was bad (replacing the fuse was not enough to fix it). The symptoms were exactly the same - the LED cycling red/green, and then finally stuck at red.

With a new Y-SUS board, the TV has been working fine for a couple months.

Does the red light blink in a discernible pattern? How many times does it flash or blink?

SOURCE: Tv cuts off and green light flashes

If your set was manufactured around July 2005, you may need a firmware upgrade to solve this issue. On the Sony website you can enter your model # and serial # to see if you TV is affected. If so, it is easy to have done and may be free from Sony. It sounds like the issue they described in the writeup on the required formware update. I had mine done within few months of when i bought it (purchased in Dec 2005) and it has been working flawlessly since.

Good luck!

Picture flickers and clicking sound coming from back of t.v.

The Z-Sustain should be suspected. Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. It will make search easy. There are more than 1200 posts to different brand TVs now. Pull up older posts there. Faults to almost all brand Plasmas will be the same as they are all built on similar chassis. Refer any one. You can get details.

The screen just went off. i can still here the sound but no picture. now when i turn the tv on it clicks

Power supply. Contact Vizio support, and they can point you in the right direction.

the VizParts people are the official parts suppliers, and they also have better pricing than anyone else on the web from what I've seen.

Swapping the power supply is pretty easy.

Loud bang, unit stopped working

I have seen the caps in the power supply vent, which means they get hot and the top pops up and splits open, resulting in the "bang" sound. If you have experience in electronics then remove the back of the set and examine the power supply, looking for any caps whose tops are bowed upward, and replace.
