Question about HP Pavilion dv8000t Notebook

1 Answer

Display dims I have a three year old HP DV 8110US Pavilion and it has recently started to go dim or pale with slight lines. The problem is intermittent and moving it to the almost complete open position sometimes gets the screen back, but recently I have had to twist or flex the screen. It would not seem like the display or even the backlight inverter would be bad if I get the display back often for hours at a time. Has there been any issues with cabling or connections on these things? Also where might I find a good soiurce to open this monster without damaging the case to inspect the interior?

My HP laptop monitor would go very dark (sometimes still legible) and it did it infrequently. The problem got worse and I could temporarily fix it by flicking the monitor off botton (i.e. the thing that sticks out to turn the monitor off when you close it). Ultimately, I had to replace the inverter. It was simple (once I found how to take it apart online) to replace the inverter and it fixed the monitor problem. This is after a computer technition told me that I needed a new bulb or for a little more he could get me a new monitor. Maybe there are some good computer repair guys, but I am now leary of them.

I have a HP PAvilion dv5-1125nr and I recently encountered a problem where on startup it shows a white screen. I tried looking at it from all angles to see if there was a faint image but there was nothing....

no photos of white screen presented or posted.
is it white in a dark room???????????
DV5-1125nr (9 years old (first made date) RTC COIN cell time? sure. page 59 tells you how.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550108

lacking any photos , it be impossible to fix this talking in text box.
no?
as they say ,seeing is believing, what you call white I call black.
white on sunny beach, or black in dark room, can be the same.
PAvilion dv5-1125nr

always post what a pC does in the dark, its best.
all text seen , all logos seen (hp or compaq)
any boot screens, any log in screens.
and if the "hit F10 key to enter HP setup" is missing on said screen as seen now for 9 years running.
if that text is missing,
remove the big battery in rear of LP,they short, so get it out now
and first., do that first. always,,,
then run on AC power,
do the HP long reset? (battery out, ac pack pulled
push power button 10 to 30second, not use the ac pack only
it can run on AC forever, end ever , no problems.
do so now.
got that that 9 year old text now? in the dark, ok?
The F10 is BIOS hot key, power on and quickly hammer F10
bingo for BIOS. see that? see those screens, those are first.
if BIOS is dead, it can not boot any OS made.
BIOS does the booting job, see?
here is your support page. at HP, Fixya is NOT HP. so....

this OLD PC, is CCFL back lighted, all are.
2010 year is the magic hear we went to LED backlamps.
but your PC is 2008, see?
CCFL do these things
dim, go yellow, do dead, go intermittent and blink(strobes)
if dim, AS I SUSPECT , then its that. (brightness set to max)
CCFL tubes are 99% caused
the HV inverter is 1%

here is the tube sets.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/CCFL-Backlight-for-15-4-LCD-HP-Pavilion-dv4400-dv5000-dv5100-dv5-1000-1100-1200/401259562873?hash=item5d6cef0779:m:mcD2SCb17BxyIvQPKdpd78A

here is the inverter (high voltage inverter for HV CCFL tubes)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-dv5-1125em-dv5-1125eo-dv5-1125es-dv5-1125nr-laptop-LCD-inverter/121175375836?epid=1758409030&hash=item1c369d7fdc:g:CXEAAOSwRbtaAU5l

if you tell what it does in the dark , all things
good or bad,.
answer get 10x smaller, or in fact , dead accurate.

why not just get it fixed by a tech.
all old laptops do this, EVERY SINGLE ONE.

I have a HP dv6449us with Nvidia, etc. My lcd screen began flickering with rapid horizontal lines and then went black. At restart in indirect light I can faintly see the HP logo and bottom tray, but...

first step on all LT is to remove the main battery. off bottom with latches.
then the LT runs on AC power , endlessly and no dim screens.
any LT thinks its running on battery only, it goes to dim mode.
NO OS stated, by you, XP./vista,w7/8/10?
lines, are not a good sign, is this a 2008 laptop with the infamous
solder-balls from H3LL, Nvidia failures. here lets look that up.
seems yes, year 2007 stamped clear as day in the service manual (Free) at Hp.com. (aka, lead-free *****,etc)

so do this, run on AC only.
then, twist the bottom case then the screen case.
UN-nuturally, if lines change (add or subtract) it's a bad GPU or screen.
gently, do that, takes only gentle forces and is common failure.
test 3 is push the J key harder, like 5 lb ham on back of hand hard. screen changes? this is to get stress on the GPU, my be a waste of time, no 2 lapstops the same on lay out. even different by sub models, same name and number.

since i cant see your lines, and make great advice, above is wild guess on what you saw not me.
so,, if lines means, its only DIM ? then that is another answer
lets do DIM only.......
battery out main, ok? leave it out, so AC is the only powser
so the I Have full power logic runs it at full brightness.
and the brightness button actually works.

ever heard of CCFL. Back lamps.
the all die, everyone, for sure this old. 7 years old.
if used allot for sure. it's not LED black lamps here, understand that, the back lamps that last for ever are not HERE.
they (CCFL) go dim, go yellow(all do) and go intermittent or dead.
some even strobe,(flicker just before the END)
all do. every one. after about 20k hours used(adds up easy)
10 hr/day x 5.5 year is that, yours is 7 .

99% tubes bad. stats.
1% inverter bad, or both.
the inverter takes, low voltage and makes about 500vdc
for the tubes to run.
examples.

if you had photos of BAD, answers get x10 more easy.

you posted lackng any clue as to what OS, of 100 possible.

1: did you know many (most) HP LT have 1 to 4 screen options one even one model, (the service tag/ P/N line number xxxxxxx#ABA
tells me what is there, as does the HP parts surfer, ask.
so that new screen must MATCH the mobo, exactly not guessed
next time ask , or as at real HP we are not HP here.
but I can tell you how to fix any HP PC made.
2- does it run with that relic big battery out?
2a ever change that tiny coin cell> (oops)
4-in XP go to power settings in CP, control panal and click that and turn off all power sleeps, and all hibernates settings .
5: if still good HDD and the recovery not blown away (slammed)
the F11 key reloads the OS. (2006 to now HP PC)
why not post screen photos so we can see it mess up?
are the bios screens ok, if not we work that first.
if the BIOS screens are dim the hardware IS WRONG.
for SURE. (even with HDD out and CD drive out , BIOS RUNS)
the BIOS INFO pages. what do they do.?

next time before swapping screens or MOBO ask how first
ask how to get the correct matching parts.
its not trivial at all , like on desktops
LT are a pain to fix until you learn the ropes.
and parts are difficult unlike , ATX Desktops, easy

here is the forum to ask on, real HP

no card there. its cables and connector only
i cant see it do its dance so no answers possible.
ask the living?
obviously its broken and is inside.
some dv9000 have ccfl lamps that all die...
that greed deal sound serious.
get the service book , read how to remove keyboard
and flex the LCD cable there. it might just be loose.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

the pc is retired status now. no support page
but parts yes.
the parts page shows inverter and CCFL.
if the tubes fail they do go dim /flicker and turn yellow.
that yell can make other colors go green.
but I cant see it so IDK

I have a hp pavilion dv 1659 us (dv 1000) the sata drive goes bad

It will recognize the new drive if you were able to "migrate" your data from the old drive. If not, you can clean install by booting from an optical drive (changing your boot order at start-up) and using a new OS disk or your recovery disks. You might be able to perform a remote partition & format and install from one drive to the other with USB external enclosures for each drive and another computer (depending on the 100G drive's condition). I hope this helps.

I had a Gateway Computer that crashed. (10 year old ) and I want to use the same speakers for my new HP Windows 7 computer. What sound cards do I need to download? Or how do I find out?

The new HP Windows 7 computer most likely already has a sound card built in. On the back of your computer you should find at least three 1/8" plugs for sound related use. If there is just three, one is for line-in, one is for line out (speaker connection), and the other is for the microphone. You would connect your old speakers to the line-out connection (usually a pale green color). If you have more connections, then you have a sound card that supports surround sound. You'll have to refer to the computer's documentation to determine which output to connect to.

Acer 3000 Screen not working properly

This is most likely either a.) the connection to the LCD is falling out or b.) the screen itself is going bad.

If you feel comfortable to tackle this job you can buy the LCD to replace:

New LCD Screen:
http://www.lcds4less.com/AcerLaptop__acer_aspire_3000_series__laptop-screens.html

Removal Instructions:
http://www.lcds4less.com/PDF/Laptop-LCD-Removal-Instructions.pdf

Be sure to double check with the company to make sure that this screen will work with your notebook.

If you computer is still under warranty or maybe you purchased an extended warranty the manufacturer might cover replacement of the LCD.

hope that helps!
