When i get the black screen over my picture the size of a computer screen, i push the little round button between the volume and the channel selector on the remote. It has two little circular arrows on it. It takes the screen off momentarily, but on certain channels it stays there. Not for sure what the problem is, and why it does it, but some channels are worse than others.

Nothing you did wrong here. Use the warranty. I would take it back and change it. Problems right out of the box is a bad sign. Could have been shipping problem to the store that caused this. You shouldn't have to pay a dime.
The black box is a text box for closed captioning. Some stations send the signal which turns on the box while not actually broadcasting any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off closed captioning, or at least change it to a different mode. The easiest option is to restore factory presets.
