Sharp Blue-ray player does not reconize the flash drive for firmware updates

Posted by on

  • aperry-21 Mar 05, 2009

I tried to download the new update, but my player says my USB key has to be USB 2.0 compliant, but it is!!!!

  • aperry-21 May 11, 2010

The drive was formatted to FAT, resetting the player to factory settings got rid of the error msg about being USB 2.0 compliant so I am better off than I was earlier. I re-downloaded the file and extracted it just like they said and now saying that there is an error in the software update file and to inset the correct file and retry. Any other thoughts? :)

Blue ray won't play Avatar?

There is a firmware update for the BD-HP22. I had the same problem with Avatar but after I installed the firmware update, it loaded and ran smooth. Use the USB flash drive that came with the player or any other usb flash drive to load the firmware update. Check the link below for instructions and update file from Sharp's website.

I downloaded the firmware update for my sharp bp-hp20 blue ray player but my player won't recognize the file on my memory stick. Any suggestions?

There are usually two reasons that this happens 1. is that the file needs to be extracted first to the root of the drive ie. not in any folders. 2. is that some of the older sharp products won't reckonize any usb memory larger than 1GB. As is the case with my 52' Sharp AQUOS Special Edition LC-52SE94u TV. Could not read a 2GB Kingston, but reads the 1GB Kingston just fine to update firmware. And Sharp doen't tell you this not even in the online how to firmware update page.

Hope this solver you problem,
Scott

Will not play blu ray discs but will play ordinary dvd's

You need the firmware update. You need to download it from here...
http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupport/ProductDownloads/SoftwareDownloads.aspx
and save it to a usb flash drive that is between 1-2 gigs in storage with no other files saved on to it. insert the flash drive into your blu ray player and select " software update" from the settings menu.

Will not play Blue Ray DVD

I had the same problem. Try this. Contact Sharp and have them email you the firmware update. You will need to download it from the email and transfer it to the player via a flash drive. See if that works. I am about to return my Sharp Blu Ray player to Costco and go back to DVD. There seem to be a lot of problems with the technology. Even when movies start to play, they have freezes and it is sometimes hard to get the menu to show up
