Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders
This sounds like it has a microprocessor problem. Try unplugging it from the wall and leave it overnight. That will give the microprocessor a chance to reset and then try it again. If it continues to do the same thing, you need it serviced by a professional technician. I am sad to say, there are no easy fixes for a microprocessor problem.
Onkyo receivers are very good quality and are normally worth getting repaired. If it were junk I would tell you to just buy a new one. But even the very best equipment can fail. I have been repairing audio equipment for nearly 18 years and have never seen any brand that did not have some type of failures at some time or another. Onkyo's may not be the most expensive receivers, but they are some of the best engineered receivers I have worked on.
I hope this helps you decide what you are going to do, and hopefully after the micro is reset, it will work good again.
Let me know if you need any more help.

Tips for a great answer:
Apr 01, 2015 | Onkyo Ht R530 Receiver 7.1 Surround Sound...
To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings., Thanks, JT
