Thank you for your response. I changed the resolution, and then the 50% update icon disappeared. I will do as you suggest the next time the update notice appears. J.

Thank you for trying. The HP Update icon is back, with only 50% of it showing so I cannot say "yes" I would like to have the update installed. I tried the change of screen resolution, the remedy offered earlier, but it did not work. Thank you. Joan

Try changing the screen resolution.
Right click in the middle of your screen and select Properties from the menu that pops up. Then click the Settings tab at the top and move the Screen resolution slider across. Click Apply and OK to exit.

On my screen I keep seeing red vertical stripes. How do I get rid of this?

Hi,

You can try to hook up an external monitor. If the vertical linea are visible on the external display, try to update your video card driver. If it is not showing in the external monitor, You are having an LCD problem.

If you don't have any external monitor, go to BIOS setup and check if the lines are visible, if yes, you're having an LCD/screen problem. You need to replace either the LCD cable, LCD inverter or LCD itself.

Hope this helps.

My HP compaqnx9600 laptop screen display verticle lines, how can i remove them

Hi,

Here are some steps that you can try.

- Hook up an external monitor.
- If the line is visible on the external display, try to update your video card driver. But if updating the driver will not remove the vertical lines, you are certainly having problem with the video card of the laptop.
- If the line is not visible, then the problem is with the LCD of the unit. Either you have to replace or check the connections of the LCD inverter or LCD cable.
- However, if you don't have any external monitor, go to BIOS setup (by pressing F10, or whatever key is designed to access the BIOS on your laptop) and check if the line is visible, if yes, you're having an LCD/screen problem. Either you have to replace or check the connections of the LCD inverter or LCD cable.

Hope this helps.

I have a HP Compaq 6910p with blue lines down screen ? can you help ? Please ; )

Hello there
I had this issue too with a Vaio i had. This means that there is a faulty connection between the ribbonconnecting your LCD monitor to the motherboard. Now, you can attempt to disassemble the PC and check the connection, but this would void your warranty and if you havent done something like this before, then i dont recommend it. What you should do is take it into your local service location to get this fixed.
I hope this helps. Thumbs up always appreciated.

From your description it sounds like image burn-in. That is caused by some parts of the screen having many more hours of use than the others. In most cases due to a smaller screen format only using a portion of the screen. Your set has a feature in the service menu to even this out by burning the rest of the screen back into proportion. Please only let a pro attempt this. Hope that helps answer your question.
