The FV200AA, as indicated by the AA, is the AA battery version of the radio, and does have a charger. If you are using rechargeable AA batteries you will need to charge them separate from the radio in the appropriate charger.

I have qty 2 IC-V85 handheld radios i just purchased new. One of them is working as planned testing136.000. The second one shows transmitting when i push the button but doesnt transmit?

At the Factory, they program test frequencies into the radios. They may or may not transmit to each other out of the box. They assume all radios will be read, then programmed properly. The test frequencies may not even be the same. Never transmit from the charger. All kinds of bad things can happen. Glad to answer more questions, but first, what are you using them for?

Battery won't charge

In most things I get biofeedback telling me I have either screwed something on correctly, or that I know it's cross-threaded. I know from the feel as I make the connection.

With my UV5R+ and its charger stand, I really don't know if it's sitting in the charger stand and making contact -- unless I see the light turn solid red. That means it's charging.

I have set it in place and it slipped right in, making the light go red. And I have set it ip place, jiggled it and set it again, and have slammed it in, all without success It is of a very poor design.

That may be your problem, you have it "cross-threaded" and don't know it. Have you ever seen the battery charger show Red?

I don't know if my experience is a one-of-a-kind or if it is widespread.

Now, if you do get around the design flaw I have described and the charger does go red, your battery may be faulty. it's not charging.

Do i leave my radio on the charger all the time?

You didn't say what kind of radio or charger. If it's a "smart charger" and the radio has Lithium or NiMH batteries, it's not a problem. You should, however use the radio without charging it occasionally until the batteries have been mostly (but not fully) discharged. Ultimately that will give you the best life from your batteries.

If you're just using a "wall wart" charger. Only charge the batteries when they need charging, or before you know you're going to use the radio for a period near the maximum time it's rated to operate.
You probably ought to consider getting a battery pack that can accept "AA" batteries as a "spare". You can find AA batteries everywhere, and although they're not rechargeable (for the most part), they'll last longer than your rechargeable batteries - for one use. There's a reason the "Wildland Fire" people use nothing but standard AA batteries in their radios.

Need to replace DVE AC Adapter

Hi,

If your desk charger is the version that can accommodate 2 units for simultaneous charging, any wall adapter would do as long as it is rated at 9VAC @ 450mA or higher. Since most wall adapters are DC output, you need to open it and remove the diode(s) and capacitor and connect the output of the secondary straight to the wires. Additionally, you need to get one whose plug will match the jack of the desk charger.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
