Question about Home Security
I start my lawn tractor and it runs fine... when I put it into gear, it will run fine for 30 to 40 seconds and then it starts to want to dye out. Then all of a sudden it will fire back up and run again. It repeats the wanting to die out every 30 to 40 seconds and will refire up again. it just will not run smoothly.
I replaced the gas. I put in a new fuel filter. I also cleaned the carb. I had a new carb put in by Sears in 2005.
Could you please help me diagnose this problem?
I would really appreciate it!
If it even has a float. A lot small engines just have a diaphragm type pump.
I was thinking governer sticking or loaded with grease. Right at the top of the engine is a flywheel with fins on it., Those fins serve to put an amount of forced air on the governor so it does not overrevv. This gov connects directly to the carb but it could be any number of fuel issues.
When in doubt spray the gov/ flywheel/engine with a foaming engine cleaner while warm then later spray it away.
After that if it still continues I would rebuild the carb, They usually come extra so buy a new float, too. while you're in there it is worth the effort. Most of all make sure it's adjusted right or it will do what you describe. New kits use a cardboard feeler gauge to set it. But you could have any number of sticking/varnished needle valves in there. Crab rebuilds are not expensive but it's good to set it out on a cleanly newspapered cardtable with a magnet and a can of carb cleaner. These are tiny parts... tweezers help... small hands of a kid would, too. But it will save yourself 1 to three hundred dollars.. I've rebuilt many from little two cycles to car ones.

It sounds like the float on your carb needs cleaning,im not sure how you cleaned your carb, but if you take out the bottom bowl ,it unscrews and youll see the float right there, check to see that it lifts up and down with no resistance,if ok I would check the safety switch on your seat, the one that shuts your tractor off if you get up off the tractor while its running, its probally on the way out,if this is helpfull please vote me a fix ya
