First of all, I should mention that this is my first attempted DLP repair.
I have looked over the Service Manual and have made some very solid progress (I feel). I'll let you know what I have done so far and what I'm stumped on.
From "ATC336_Manual_lite.pdf"(which I got from another guru here (thanks))
Flow Chart "No Video - A"
Applied AC power, achieved normal boot up sequence, Began start up. Did instrument start normally and display video? :P Obviously not, onward to "No Video - B"
Flow Chart "No Video - B"
Did Color Wheel Spin? No, I have removed the lamp assembly and made sure to close the "Lamp housing safety circuit" and observed up close that the Color Wheel is NOT spinning.
Possible Light Engine Reset Failure -> Remove AC power CHECK -> Disconnect HDMI Cable to Light Engine CHECK -> Apply AC power and wait for boot up signal to complete CHECK -> Connect to any monitor capapble of Composite VIdeo Dislpay CHECK -> Visible Video on Monitor? YES (I see a black screen with a few fuzzy white lines) DM Module Ok Go to Light Engine Troubleshooting chart ^ PROBLEM #1 (this is the same step I would have went to if they Color wheel DID spin, which leads me to believe that The said above steps should have "Fixed" the color wheel not spinning problem
Light Engine Troubleshooting Chart
Successfull Booth Sequence (5 blinds, Power LED stays on) Color wheel Spin NO Remove AC and check Color wheel connectors and Color Wheel (I cannot figure out how to actually GET to the Color wheel)
Noting Problem #1, if the said steps had supposed "Overlooked" the color wheel not spinning... next box for Light Engine Trouble Trouble shooting?
Problem #2 Did Lamp Turn on? (Lamp Fan Start) Oddly, the FAN does start spinning but the Lamp does not start. Continue to Light Engine TS - B
Remove Lamp CHECK -> When boot up sequence is complete; turn on.
When the lamp strike occurs do you hear a tick? No, the ballast does not tick as it attempts to strike lamp arc.
So I guess the primary question here is Does the Color Wheel have to turn in order for the ballast to strike the lamp?
If so, does this mean the wheel needs to be replaced; if so; anyone have a diagram of how I un-house it?
If the ballast IS the problem; would a fixed one solve my problem and also make the Color Wheel turn again?
If I need any manuals with this response; my e-mail is Irsikd@aol.com

My thomson 27lcdb03b now seems to need to 'warm-up'. For instance when switching on for first time of the day the green light & backlight are fine, but no picture. If you leave it for 15 mins or so, then switch it off at the wall and on again, then click the menu button on the remote, picture comes on OK and remains on as if no problem. If you switch the TV off and back on after a few minutes only, it's fine, so strangely the fault sounds like a temperature problem for one of the components? Having to go into the menu to 'kick' the picture into life the first time also seems a bit odd. Once warmed up everything works fine again - any ideas?
