The reset did it. To take the front frame off, insert a fingernail in a notch at the top center of the display frame.

I had the same problem with the unit not turning on. there is a master rest button behind the front shield remove the small plastis strip from around the front area and on the right there is a reset button hold it for 30 sec and try it again . it worked for me.

Keeping the unit in the glove compartment is not a good idea, for a couple of reasons. If anyone suspects you have the unit, the glove box is the first place they will look. Secondly, it gets very hot/cold in the glove compartment, depending on the ambient temperature. It is not good for the unit, or the battery, to be subjected to extremes in temperatures. It is possible the battery is no longer working properly as a result.
