Sony TA-VE100 Hi Can you help? I have had a Sony TA-VE100 prologic amp for some time now and love it to bits. Unfortunately the left front channel no longer works but the the right front and rest of the channels are fine. Any help would be most appreciated as I don't want to waste money on something that is not worth repairing. Many Thanks

Hi

The left front channel is not working and is the problem, everything else is ok. Could it be that something has blown? I had the cover off and everything seems ok.

Regards

First of all check for loose connections. Also see if the left front audio output is working or not.

My sony mini hi-fi deck continue to tell me to i quote 'PUSH POWER;PROTECT' what do i do?plss help.

You PUSH the POWER control (OFF) because it is self protecting.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or
marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is
running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I have a Sony Handycam Video 8 (CCD-TR610E PAL ) which uses the 8mm tape which is apparently no longer available. This has been replaced by a smaller tape DVM60. Is there a converter available so that I...

Unfortunately there is no adapter. They are different formats. 8mm is becoming hard to find. You may want to convert them 8mm tapes to at least VHS because if that 8mm camera breaks for some reason you will have to pay around $20 a tape for a conversion.

Need a cleaning tape, love to find a sore locally that sells it?

The best place to go for some of these harder to find items now is a professional photography shop. They will typically have what it is you are looking for.

Some of my speakers are not working with my dvd player...when testing the signals they all work though...

Is your DVD player part of an integrated system or a separate unit? If it's a separate unit hooked up to a receiver, check your audio cables if rca type. If you are using a digital cable like optical (looks like a small tube) or coaxial digital (looks like a single rca cable) check tour sound settings on your receiver. If your receiver has a setting like 7 ch stereo, go to that, all speakers play equally and easy to hear. If your listening to a movie in a "movie" setting, you will only hear the center channel most of the time since all the talking is mono and the tv is in front of you. Your left and right front speakers are "front effect" speakers, like people walking or talking directly beside the main image on the tv. your rear speakers are for "effect" only, a car/plane/train etc going past you and behind you. they are the least heard and most "mis understood" by the average person. I hope this is what you were looking for, if not, post a comment with your products make and model #'s and be more specific as to which speakers you are referring to and I can help some more.

Sony Reel to Reel preamp board.

Hi,

Did you ever get your schematic? I recently got the Model 260 and it has the original owner's manual. I could try scanning the page for you, if you still need the info (if you think that would help you).

Tape drags toward end of reel

Unplug the unit.
You probably have a brake band thet keeps the reel from free spinning. It's located under the top cover plate of the tape recorder. The band is made of cork. Over the years, it probably just got a buildup of dirt. It can be cleaned off with rubbing alcohol. Don't pull on it, it will snap. The piece you are looking for will be located right under the left reel post.
