Question about Panasonic PT-51HX41 51" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Convergence Got a PT-51HX41E and the red convergence is low by about 1.5 inch on the corner + adjustment and appear twisted (curved) on screen. The adjustments will go left and right but not up and down. the center(middle row) aligns. Other than cleaning the mirror and lenses from the smoke (came from a bar) it looks pretty good. What is the solution?

Hi guys, I had convergence problem as well and most of the resistors were burnt, some were not readable. Before the pic was curvey from topa and bottom (red only) and now that is fine after I changed all the resistors and both the STK ICs, but now the picture is curvey only from the RIGHT SIDE, I can line up the crosses, but they are curvey from RIGHT SIDE. I think I might have put one WRONG VALUE resistor since some were not readable. So, if someone could help by letting me know all the resistor values with locations, so I can check them all and make sure correct value resistor goes into correct loaction.

I would really appreciate the help.

    Thankyou

    Hi,

Have the same problem with convergence. I replaced the STK amps and resistors. This gave me better control of convergence adjusting but the pincushion adjust does not work. The screen is pincushioned in on the top and bottom and I cannot adjust them even in service mode adjustments. Do I have to mess with the Yokes? I really would rather not. There are some resistors that I did not replace since they had a good reading when I checked them. I checked them in circuit. Should I replace them anyway? Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem with the red being off center. I have replaced the convergence chip with new ones but it still hasn't fixed the problem. I can go into the menu and do the self convergence adjust but the red only moves left and right. What eles could be wrong and what parts do I need?

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board (main Board) would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

Red and blue ghosting,

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.png http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

Corner convergence for panasonic pt51hx40c projection tv

Yes there is a Service Code you need in order to set convergence and on this set it is not easy to enter! 1) Switch Antenna to cable (2) Set Sleep Timer to 30 mins,Exit menu Enter ch 124 (3) Now Press vol- on front of TV / A red CHK should appear on screen / NOW enter menu and turn sleep timer off / Exit again, now Press Power untill you see 0V00 press ch up untill you see 0V1 Then Press vol+ you should now have convergence Pattern on screen. To adjust use (ch- ch+ and vol- vol+) (cursor) moves to where you want to adjust (mute) locks place you want to adjust RTune changes R-G-B when done make sure you Save adjustments.

Did you use the Automatica Convergence to try and straighten it out? If that does not help, you can manually adjust the convergence.

Convergence Problem - PT-61HX41

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
