Can't bring up BIOS Setup (use F1 in Start up windows xp) Will bring up Computer Setup using F10. Hp tech suggested reseating CMOS battery and RAM and if that doesn't work need new board. Is that true or could it be something else. Also need to know if there's a manual for this board and which PCI slot would be best for USB 2.0 card (if any). If I need a new board is there an upgrade that would work with faster CPU. Current is 350MHz AMD K6-2 or can this board handle more.

Please provide the motherboard's model, or at least the computer model. I understood from your post that it is an HP, but the model is also necessary.

Cannot seem to find how to enable the sata ports. I've tried all the solutions suggested with no good outcome.

With the SATA drive properly attached to the cable, try clearing the NVRAM (CMOS). By clearing the NVRAM (CMOS), the system will redetect all the installed hardware including your new drive. Just follow the procedure I have outlined below. After the clearing of the NVRAM (CMOS) you may get a warning at boot up about the Diskette Drive if you do not have a floppy drive installed in the system. If that happens, just go into the BIOS Setup and disable the option for the Diskette Drive. The error message will be gone on the next reboot.

  • Reboot system and enter the BIOS Setup by pressing F2.
  • Turn on Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Num Lock.
  • Press ALT + E then ALT + F (should hear beep) then ALT + B
If you need any further assistance please feel free to contact me again.

I have a compaq armada 6500 and the cd player doesnt boot up, i need to reload the windows 98 program but i can't use the cd player

Assuming you have a working cd tray, you either need to look for boot up options as it's booting up (usually f9), or you need to go into your cmos or bios and change the drives so that the cd is checked before the hard drive.

in some machines the bios/cmos is available via f1, f10, delete, but it can be any key really, so watch for it. on really old models they didnt offer any direct access so you had to unplug the keyboard to get an error and then it gave you access.

one other thing to note is, if the version of windows you have is on a burnt disc, older players wont be able to read it. a cd rom has to be pretty old to have this problem, but it is a possibility.

OverClocking Problem when startup my system

Most motherboards have settings that allow the board to try and overclock itself upon bootup. Take a look in your manual and it should lead you to the correct setting in the bios that will allow you to have the computer boot up in normal mode. Failing that, you may have to force the motherboard back to the default setup. There is a jumper you would have to move, then you would remove the battery from the motherboard. Check your manual for how to clear the CMOS settings if you need to do that step.

Lost pass word

How to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup.
Reasoning: IBM compatible users may need to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup to setup or change how their computer's hardware is currently configured.
Solution: Because of the wide variety of computer manufacturers and BIOS manufacturers over the evolution of computers, there have been numerous different ways to enter the BIOS or CMOS Setup. Below is a listing of the majority of these methods as well as other recommendations for entering the BIOS setup.
Notice: If you are unable to get into the BIOS or CMOS setup because of a password please see document CH000235.
New computers Thankfully, computers that have been manufactured in the last few years will allow you to enter the CMOS by pressing one of the below five keys during the boot.
A user will know when to press this key when they see a message similar to the below example as the computer is booting. Some older computers may also display a flashing block to indicate when to press the F1 or F2 keys.
Press <F2> to enter BIOS setup
Tip: If your computer is a new computer and you are unsure of what key to press when the computer is booting, try pressing and holding any key on the keyboard. This will cause a stuck key error, which may allow you to enter the BIOS setup.
