What are some of the things i can do to beef up my gt5220

easy options
(1) buy an external hard drive
(2) up grade memory
(3) run disc clean up- click start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disc clean up.
Run the disc cleanup on drive "c", be careful not to erase compress old files as you can lose some important older docs if you do.
Does this help in any way?

The fatel error is cause by memory/ and or CPU giveing out if the unit is under warrenty then I would suggest having them diagnose it , if its not then purchase some memory with the same spec's and try reloading again.

Alright i would say it has something to do with your memory if you don't know what that is it's RAM= RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY check in your BIOS to see if your RAM is in and also check your boot order to see if its correct like your HARD DRIVE first then CD-ROM.

Hard drive keeps crashin tried 2 differnt hard drives and they load windows works everythings normal then when you try to remove afre update anything upon restart you can never recover windows. ive sent it...

afre? It could be bios issue not recognizing the harddrive correctly therefore writing bad data to it and the data becomes corrupted and unreadable. Updating the bios could fix that...

Could be faulty memory, could be faulty cable plugging the harddrive into the controller. I personally just found a faulty SATA cable in my pc, its been replaced and no probs since.

Could be faulty power supply. I hope this was some help.

G'luck

I have a Gateway notebook model MX6956. Upon startup, I get ascreen that asks if I want to start normally or in safe mode. Either one gets me an error message that starts with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and...

1. That would indicate your hard drive is either bad or corrupt.
2. You can try and boot of your windows xp cd, select R at the first prompt to go into recovery console and run chkdsk. That often fixes these kinds of problems.
3. If that doesn't work, you can take your hard drive and, using a usb enclosure or cable to convert the type of hard drive you have to usb, attach it to another computer and remove your files that way.
4. If the chkdsk didn't work, it may be time to purchase a new drive.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya. Thank you.

What is the original OS? If it's XP you can't install 98 over the top of it without formatting it to FAT32 first.
