The normal temperature of most cars should approach 212 deg. F and some cars run hotter than that, depending on the weather. Also, in the winter, cars can go up to 192 deg. F or so and still run ok. In the summer, car's cooling systems can top off the temperature above the boiling point of water, but still run as long as there are no leaks in the cooling system.

Temp. gauge don't move past half on 1996 VW Jetta

Sounds normal. If the gauge moved further over, it would indicate an overheating problem, wouldn't it? Check that engine is at normal operating temperature after it warms up. If it is running too cold, your thermostat might be stuck open.

VW Transporter, wastegate for turbo is seized, no power at all. can it be freed up, guy fixing it reckons it's abig job to get to it and if it can't be freed up it will be a waste of time?

I am told once seized it's toast. The waste gate and turbo are 1 piece and repair is $1,500. T.D.I.'s are cheap to drive until they have a mechancial problem.

As a protest I WILL NOT take my Jetta to a VW dealer. I go to local garage at half the price.

Car getting hot

1) Is there enough coolant in the radiator?
2) Have you noticed if the electric fans are kicking on when the temp is going high? I'm guessing that they are not, the temp switch may be faulty.

I have a 2002 VW Jetta TDI and am problems with turbo.

Hallo
1.Disconect lower hose from intercooler and oil (from 0,1 liter or more) (sometimes 1-2 liters) comes out, you should not drive it.(car had probably loose power) Change the turbine, oil and oil filter. do not forget to disconect lower hose and let oil drain out. Otherwise when new turbine is instald, the air flow will **** this oil inside the engine and distroy it.
2.your car is not designed to run without turbine and will not work like normal disel.(SDI).
hope it helps
