My necchi model 7020 has a buttonhole attatch. that I can't get to work correctly. I set it up just as it says in the directions. Bring the lever down and push back, hold thread loosely and it proceeds to come foward, not making the front bar tack only a straight line. My sister has the same machine and hers works fine. So I don't know what else to do. Help me please I have MANY christmas gifts I need to put button holes in...thank you !

How do you do button holes

Firstly look in manual. Secondly, search online for manual. Thirdly, I seem to remember that you had to select the buttonhole function on the machine. If you haven't got one then you need to sew two parallel lines of stitching very close together, then overstitch at each before finally cutting between the parallel stitches.

Elna SU buttonhole- I can't remember the order to set the dials for the automatic button hole function. Anyone know? Thanks

sure, put on the buttonhole foot after putting a button into it and using the screw knob to set the length you want.
Turn stitch length knob and stitch width knobs to zero, (always set them to zero first to avoid wear on the stitch selection mechanisim) then turn the left stitch selector knob to the blue button hole symbol. Now turn middle knob stitch width, to the blue buttonhole symbol. Now turn right knob stitch length to blue 1, sew down the first side of your buttonhole until foot slide in the buttonhole foot reaches end stop. raise needle and turn stitch length to blue 2, and sew three bar tacks across buttonhole. Again, raise needle and then turn stitch length to blue 3 and sew back down otherside of buttonhole until you reach the end stop. Needle up, turn length know to blue 4 and sew three bartacks to end. there is a last blue symbol dot on stitch length knob, this will sew a stitch in place to tie off the ends. Raise pressure foot, remove your work and draw top threads to underside with a needle, and tie off or use a dot of fray stop. Done! if you don't have a manual you could email me and I'll send you a copy of mine, tallygirl98 at yahoo dot com.

I do not understand how to use make the the buttonhole i cant get the 2&4

According to the description for the 15218 sewing machine, it has a one-step buttonhole function. You should be able to put on the automatic buttonhole foot, insert the button behind the presser foot, and set the pattern selector dial to "BH"- see p. 66 of the manual at http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0909499.pdf
Good luck!

I have temporarily misplaced the instruction manual to my White 979 sewing machine. I need to put this shirt in todays mail and I have forgotten the direction to make a buttonhole. I s there a place I...

Automatic BUTTONHOLE making with 979:
  1. Carefully mark the position of buttonhole on your garment.
  2. Slide the button carrier and insert the button.
  3. Attach the buttonhole foot.
  4. Place the garment under the foot so that the needle pierces the fabric at the beginning of buttonhole.
  5. Lower the buttonhole lever and the presser foot lever.
  6. Push the buttonhole lever away from you.
  7. Start machine to complete entire buttonhole.
NOTE:
  • While making buttonholes, maintain an even sewing speed for uniform buttonholes.
  • When buttonholes are completed, be sure to push up the buttonhole lever as gar as it can go.

I am trying to use automatic button hole and it keeps beeping and showin bl?

Ok, so all the credit goes to this website http://www.burdastyle.com/howtos/show/95
Photo 7 shows a buttonhole lever that comes down and contacts the auto buttonhole presser foot. The machine manual is a little vague about this in the section about buttonholes. At the point when it shows the lever being pulled down, the manual should reference the part number in the list of part names in section 1, and it would have been easier for me not to have mistaken that lever with the stop on the side of the presser foot that the lever sits against . . . . that also kinda looks like a lever! Probably a no-brainer for someone who does this all the time, but for a noobie like me . . . .I'm glad I found the website above. So . . . .the machine is now making perfect buttonholes 30 seconds after finding the butonhole lever! Groovy!

Buttonholes

Put on the C foot. Select the buttonhole stitch. The machine will start sewing in the bottom left corner of the the buttonhole. Sew the length that you need, press and release the reverse button and sew the right side of the buttonhole. When you get back to the bottom, press and release the reverse button again and the buttonhole will be finished and the thread will tie off and the machine will stop. If the buttonhole is what you want, press and release the Stop button and the machine will repeat this buttonhole as many times as you need until the machine is turned off or the Stop is pressed again. When repeating, you need not press the reverse. Just press down on the foot control and continue until the machine stops by itself.
If you don't like the first one, just sew another one using the reverse button to set the ends.

How do i use the automatic buttonhole on kenmore 19233??

Your machine should have a special buttonhole foot which has a place to insert a button, You will probably have to pull on opposite ends of the foot to open it. Place the button in the foot and then squeeze it together to make the button secure. Attach the foot to the machine. It should snap on.
looking at the left side of the machine you will see your needle bar at the front and the presser foot bar at the back. You should also see another lever which needs to be pulled down so that it rests in the buttonhole foot.Select buttonhole on your machine and it should sew. The button determines how long the buttonhole is.

One step button Hole V for Singer Sewing Machine

Hi, I had the same problem, but I finally found my manual. The solution is that you have to use the presser foot for buttonholes but the most important part is that you have to lower the buttonholer lever. It is located right next to the needle to the left. It is a metal lever with a little square white plastic end. You need to pull that down in order the the buttonhole feature to work. My button was too big for the buttonhole presser foot, so I had to use the regular presser foot, but hit the buttonhole lever with my had to make it go up or down.
