Question about ATI Mobility RADEON Graphic Card

2 Answers

Problem my monitor show many red, blue and green dotted vertical lines.. never had a problem like that until now since i changed my graphic card I have a Sony vaio vgn-a790 notebook. I have vertical lines in ms media player, reboot logo,Icons on the desk top, etc. The curser locks up, then the ATI setup pops up and resets the driver. 1. I updated the driver, reloaded the driver, rolled back to my old driver which was doing the same. 2. I adjusted the hardware acceleration, to disable all the cursor and advanced drawing accelerations. 3.Checked my power supply and fan tempeture Best buy could not fix it.

Screen went dark when I connected a digital external monitor, worked fine with an analog. external monitor is fine. primary is so dark it looks blank unless you look at an angle. ati had a brief web note stating connecting a digital monitor & screen going blank was a known problem without solution. tried everything except reformatting the hard drive. could this be mechanical or voltage problem? Changing graphic cards? I hate to toss a 1920x1200 17”

I still have my sony, any specific knowledge of this graphics card, already tried drivers, reinstalling everything. evidently it's related to the card. One note in a sony forum that was removed said they changed the voltage setting to the screen. I followed his directions booting to the bios area if that's what it's called. Couldn't find a voltage setting. I can see everything on the screen but too dark to read. Connected any external monitor works fine? Any good laptop screen websites?

Blue vertical lines

Hi, I am sorry you are having issues with your graphics card.

Yes the oven trick does work but it is only temporary and you will have to do that process over and over until the card just all out quits responding. Once a GPU begins to display multicolored or blue lines across the monitor its time to put it out to pasture so to speak.

The video processor no longer operates - the lines are caused by the simple operation of the timer clock of the processor. The card is dead and you must replace it.

by process of elimination, try unplugging your monitor from your computer. turn it on, the built in self test should run. it will give you color coded boxes like red green, blue etc.. and would tell you no signal. if you cant see any lines during the buit in self test, then is the video card thats busted...

Hope it helps!

that might actually be a bad LCD..

or bad graphics chip..

either way probly cheaper to buy a new laptop.

alternatively you can just connect a CRT monitor to the monitor out port.

Video card problem

Does the Verical line on the monitor also come when the monitor is unplugged from teh system. If yes the problem is with the monitor. If no the problem is with the video card. The computer maufacturer may have given you cds to run diagnostics on the card.
Eg on dell system , you need to press the f12 key 5 times after you turn the system on , to run the diags

Problem

So the screen just did this when you changed graphics card? That means there is either something wrong with your graphics card to which you changed, the resolution is set too high, it is not seated all the way, or you have it on the wrong connection. If it is a DVI port make sure your monitor is set to DVI (digital) connection. If it is a VGA port make sure your monitor is set to analog connection.
