Question about ViewSonic VX924 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Won't power on. No lights at all.

Won't power on. There are no lights at all. Tried several power cords (which worked with another Viewsonic monitor). Bought it used on Ebay; it looks perfect physically. Is there anything inside I can check? I have an electronics background and some equipment.

I took the monitor apart. Everything inside looked OK although I noticed some loose screws on the board assemblies (somebody may have fiddled with the guts?!). I borrowed a power supply/inverter board from a VX922 and the VX724 worked perfectly! The Viewsonic parts store has replacement updated boards for $31 that fit the VX924 or VX922 (or so they say). By the way, many thanks to a hint I read somewhere to use a credit card to pop open the case, which is held by four screws PLUS plastic 'tangs'!

You have done Most of it...
You have tried to swap the Power cords that work fine with the Other Monitors and If that do not work there are 2 things externally that could be bad.

1-> The Power Button.
2-> The Port where you would Plug in the Power cable.

so Check if the Power button is stuck or Broken, or Loose out of control.
besides that If with one of the good power cord connected when you connect an external Head phone and you receive some Kind of sound out of it.,
It could be because of the Display settings.
you can try the monitor self test.
By having the Monitor Unpluged from the computer but still connected to the power.
you would see a message that shows, that the VGA cable is not pluged in if that shows your Monitor is fine otherwise it is BAD.

ViewSonic monitor is starting to go dark

See if your monitor has a brightness control. The manual is here...

1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.

My viewsonic vx1940w monitor won't turn on. There's no lights or anything. The outlet it's plugged into is working because I tried another device in the same outlet. My settings didn't...

I had two ViewSonic's that did the same thing right around 2 year as well. They worked really well for me and then just died.
I found out the first one had a faulty power cord, and the second one just wouldn't turn on at all.
I think there's a good chance that your monitor bit the big one just based on my experience with the brand. I would recommend taking it in to your local computer repair shop and let them take a look at it. If it is 2 years old then it is probably out of the manufacturer's warranty unfortunately. I hope this helps answer your question :(

I have a VA712b monitor. Outta the blue, little green light showing power on, display stayed dark (black). It wouldn't come on. Shut off main power to computer and retried, several times. It came on and...

More likely you have dying power supply due to bad caps as hsown in all the failed VIEWSONIC MONITORS albums. It is almost the same as the bigger 19" version VA912.

ViewSonic VX2235WM turns on than screen goes blank changed power cords cable cords viedo card cpu still same problem

The problem is most likely the monitor itself. Hook up an old monitor (usually someone has an old monitor laying around) if the computer works with another monitor you'll know for sure.
Look at your monitor using a flash light at an angle, if you can see a picture in the background you have a bad inverter.

VX922 monitor, blank screen, blinking power light

If there is a flashing led on front of the monitor, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1 The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr suddenly are a blown capacitor on power board, the inverter board powering up backlight lamp has blown, or a fault on main lcd controller board.
check also the video cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Check connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact Viewsonic to find out a Viewsonic service point.

Problem seemed to be a short in the power cable to the monitor. Replaced the power cable and for the time, the monitor is working correctly.

DVI input on monitor not working

Contacted viewsonic about this issue- they suggested- have both dvi and vga hooked up to same machine. start with poweroff on both. power on monitor, then power on computer. when you see display coming from the vga, power off pc, then disconnect vga cable, turn off power to monitor, disconnect power cord from monitor for 5 + seconds, reconnect power cord, power on monitor, then power on pc.
If this doesn't work to get the dvi working, (as happened to us) we returned our monitor for a replacement, since it was still under warranty.
