Router is connected to my laptop but my emachines computer isnt showing any connects

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used to configure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.

How to setup a Wireless Network

1. <b>Connect Your Wireless Router</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Power off your cable modem and your wired PC.<br /><b>b.</b> Unplug the Ethernet cable from your cable/DSL modem and plug it into one of the LAN ports on the back of the wireless router. Leave other end of the cable connected to your PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Connect another Ethernet cable between your modem's Ethernet port and the wireless router's WAN port. (The WAN port should be separate from the other grouped LAN ports.)<br /><b>d.</b> Power on the modem and watch for the status lights to indicate that it's connected to your Internet service. This may take a minute or so.<br /><b>e.</b> Plug in the router. The status lights will blink as it runs through its diagnostics; this may also take a minute or so.<br /><b>f.</b> Start up your wired PC.<br />2. <b>Configure your Wireless Router</b><br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the router's quick-start guide, launch Internet Explorer, and type in the address indicated in the guide.<br /><b>b.</b> Follow the on-screen setup wizard, which will guide you through the process step by step.<br /><b>c.</b> Enable your router's security functions. This is very important if you don't want other people attaching to your wireless signal. The options will be WEP and WPA. Both will ask you to enter a key. Depending on the router's manufacturer, you may have to go into Advanced Settings to accomplish this step.<br /><b>d.</b> Change the default administrator's password, Almost all hackers know them.<br /><b>e.</b> Change the SSID-the name of your wireless network. Again, hackers know many of the default SSIDs and can use them to hack your network.<br />3. <b>Install a Wireless PCI Card in a Desktop PC</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the card manufacturer's quick-start guide. If necessary, run the software installation program.<br /><b>b.</b> Power down the PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Remove the cover.<br /><b>d.</b> Find an available PCI slot and remove the slot cover from the back of the PC.<br /><b>e.</b> Carefully insert the antenna through the open slot in the back of the PC, carefully push the card in the slot, and secure it. Replace the cover. <br /><b>f.</b> Start up the PC. It should recognize and install the new PCI card.<br /><b>g.</b> Go to the Control Panel, select Network connections, select Wireless Networking connection. Click on Properties button. Click on Wireless Networking tab. Select the wireless networking name (see step 2e). Click on Configure button. Configure your security settings to match the ones on your wireless router.<br />4. <b>Install a Wireless PC Card in a Notebook PC</b> <br />Many notebooks have built-in wireless cards. However, If yours doesn't, you can install either a USB wireless adapter or a wireless PC card just follow these instructions.<br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the card manufacturer's quick-start guide. If necessary, run the software installation program.<br /><b>b.</b> Power down the PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Plug your USB wireless Adapter or wireless PC Card into an available slot on the side of your notebook.<br /><b>d</b>. Start up the PC. It should recognize and install the new PCI card.<br /><b>e</b>. Go to the Control Panel, select Network connections, select Wireless Networking connection. Click on Properties button. Click on Wireless Networking tab. Select the wireless networking name (see step 2e). Click on Configure button. Configure your security settings to match the ones on your wireless router. well, thats pretty much it. Hope this is helpful to all you home networkers.<br />

How do i find my wep key or wpa key

Network security key
Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop,configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wirelesssettings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptopscan communicate with your wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

I bought a Belkin N Wireless Router F5D8236-4 v2 and changed my internet provider a few months later and I have lost the Installation CD, can I install it without the CD?

Yes you simply need to hook up via an Ethernet cable, open a browser type in the routers address, login with username and password, and then you can edit any setting you like. Then when finished you save settings and reboot router.
installation guide below.

Need to set up a wireless connection

Do you have the CDs that came with the router and the adapter?  If you do, you can run the Router CD on your PC upstairs to configure the Router, and Run the adapter CD on the a610 to configure the adapter. If you don't have the CDs, I need the brand and model number of the wireless router, and the model number of the linksys adapter.  If you need help physically installing the card, let me know.

UNKNOWN  COMPUTORS  CONNECTED  TO  MY  NETWORK  I  AM  USING  A  WIRELESS   MODEM  P2602  ANY  HELPERS

avery you need to configure your router to avoid having people using your internet conection:

please provide the model and maker of your router and I can walk you through a desirable configuration. or if you want to try it yourself check on your router's manual as usually there will be instructions on what you need to do...

for you to have a general idea i suggest your read the following article that explains common things you need to set up like:
1. change the default SSID (the network name or name of your router/access point)
2. hide your ssid (so only you know the name and set up the computers you want manually to use it)
3. a network key/passphrase: so in order for other computer to join your network a key/passphrase or password is provided first
4. encryption: so your neigbors don't decipher what you're transmitting wirelessly.
5. configure your computer to access your wireless network after configure your router with the configuration you set.

if you have any questions post back and make sure to note the router model and maker

I am trying to connect to new acer laptop to my wireless network, but my acer empowering technology toolbar, located above my keyboard, does not seem to be working to allow me to connect to my wireless...

Hey

for this you gotta now the following:

1. ssid : this is the name of your access point (router)
2. key/passphrase: this is the network security key you configure your router with (if your router has a default configuration (the one that came with the device right out of the box which is not recommended) your key may be a blank key ... you simply don't have one set up.
3. the encryptation method: wep, wpa, wpa2. this goes again to how you have your router configured and if your don't have anything configured with your router in regards to encriptions (not recommeded) you may simply not have any encryptation that you need to select here.

important:
make sure your wireless adapter is working and is on:
your laptop may have a switch on the front to turn your wireless adapter on (i don't know what model of laptop you have so you may want to check the user manual that came with laptop to find the switch) or you may have to turn it within windows. (also check the user manual of your laptop)

now that you have the info needed and your adapter is on there are 2 ways to do this:

1. using your beloved acer empowering technology:
I found this that may guide you through the process of setting up your wireless connection
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/empowering_technology/acer_enet_management.pdf

look under the title: SETUP A NEW PROFILE and follow the instructions..

now if acer empowering does not work... you can try to setup your wireless connection with windows,

2. Using windows vista to setup your wireless connections:
I'm assuming you're using vista so here's a set of instructions with pictures you may want to take a loot at and follow

http://www.home-network-help.com/vista-to-connect-wireless-network.html

let me know how it went!
if problems.. post what you see and we'll try to give you hand. (please give as many details as possible)

D-link di-524up configuring router with bigpond

Hello cook_ka

You can find information about and downloads for your "DI-524UP 54 Mbps Wireless Broadband Router Plus Print Server" HERE on D-Link's Australia & New Zealand regional web site.

You can find its product manual HERE. Please, download this manual. (You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF file reader in order to open the file.)

In order to access the router and get it configured initially, connect a computer to any one of the router LAN ports (NOT the WAN port) using an Ethernet patch cable.

The instructions for configuring your router begin on page 8 of the product manual.

This router has a configuration wizard as well. Instructions for using the configuration wizard begin on page 10 of the manual.

NOTE-1: The default IP address of your router is 192.168.0.1

NOTE-2: Don't try to access the router wirelessly until you have the router configured and your connection to the Internet working (using a "wired" connection from your computer to the router).

NOTE-3: I assume that, since your ISP is BigPond, that your Internet access connection is ADSL. In that case, you are going to need your ADSL login credentials (primary account user name and password) in order to configure the WAN side of your router settings.

Please, let us know if this information was helpful to you or, of course, if you have any further questions.
