    Please give more information:

    1. What happens--specifically--when you press the power button?

    2. Does the computer attempt to boot at all? Any error messages or beep codes?

    3. Is the computer a desktop or notebook (just checking :-))?

    4. Is the computer plugged into a working outlet? A power strip that is turned on? Have both ends of the power cable been checked to make sure they are plugged in properly?

    5. What make/model computer is it and what operating system or version of Windows is installed?

OK, so since it boots into safe mode but not normal mode, it's a peoblem either with Windows or with drivers/software loading as Windows starts. Go ahead and boot into Safe Mode, then start msconfig:

Start>Run

type "msconfig" (w/o the quotation marks) in the dialog field and press Enter.

CLICK on the Boot.Ini tab, Check Bootlog. This will enable logging your next boot attempt. It goes to \windows\Ntbtlog.txt.

Reboot as normally. When it stalls out, reboot into safe mode, navigate to \windows\Ntbtlog.txt and see where the boot fails. If it's a driver, you may need to update that driver.

If you do not wish to try to read/analyze the Ntbtlog.txt for failure points, then

Boot to Safe Mode. Start the System File Checker (You may need to have your original XP installation disk for this). Start>Run

in the run box, type

sfc /scannow

NOTE: there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow"

The System File Checker will scan for corrupt system files and attempt to replace them with known good files.

If either of those suggestions fixes your problem, well and good. If not, report back and we'll go through the procedure for a Repair Install of Windows XP.

My pc keeps saying that windows did not start successfully and gives me the normal start up options but automatically tries to start booting, shuts down and starts back up asking for a HDD Password, which...

Try selecting safe mode.
If it starts, u will get a pop up asking whether u want to start system restore.
Start system restore and restore the computer to a previous date when it was working properly.
If that does not work, u will have to do a complete re-installation of the Operating System.

Active desktop recovery screen appears on every time windows starts in windows xp i need a solution

This problem occurs because active desktop recorvery has been set to start up when windows starts so you will need to start the program go into settings or tools or options look for the start up option and disable start when windows starts.Or if you have windows tuneup utility software you can just run the program look for start up manager you will see a list of applications just look for active desktop recovery and uncheck it, you can also disable other applications with it. Please remember to rate me thank you

Windows will not start up

choose start windows in Safe mode, if it starts then everything will look big, don't worry about that for now. Then go to Start>accessories>system Tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that everything was working normally, when it has finished restoring the computer will restart. If asked choose start windows normally.

I hope this helps
