1. Make certain the caqble connecting the CD drive and the motherboard is secure.

power down the computer
remove the power cord
open the case
GROUND YOURSELF ON BARE METAL
trace the wide ribbon cable connecting the CD drive to the motherboard and make certain it is firmly seated at both ends
(while you have the case open and yourself grounded, grab your can of compressed air and blow out some dust bunnies, OK? :-))
close the case, plug in, power on.

If that wasn't the issue,

2. Clean the restore CD by using a soft cloth and wiping from the inside (at the hole) stright to the outside edge. DO NOT wipe in a circular motion!

3. Purchase a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit from WallyWorld or some other discount house and attempt to use it to clean the drive. DO NOT use compressed air to clean the drive!

4. Report back. :-)

Oops. Just re-readthe "Fixed Disk 0" portion of your error message. *sigh* Hard drive error. Check the cabling to the hard drive using a process like the one I outlined for the CD drive. If it's not a loose cable, you're likely looking at a hard drive replacement.

No lights on cd/dvd

the part you are missing is going into your computer's bios to change the boot sequence to CD/DVD first so that it would read the dvd. The current setting is probably network since you are seeing the PXE failure

It looks like you'll have to either return it or perform a default factory recovery. These instructions are from their site but proceed knowing that this will erase any data that is stored on the primary partition (meaning if you have anything on it, it's gone...). Esentially it resets it to a point as if you just picked it up in the store (which you did.. :( )

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?
With user created backups you are able to restore your computer to the factory default settings. If backup discs were created instead of factory restore discs, these can be used instead and will restore the system to a user backup point.
If you have a recovery disk:

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?
With user created backups you are able to restore your computer to the factory default settings. If backup discs were created instead of factory restore discs, these can be used instead and will restore the system to a user backup point.
    1. Ensure that the computer is completely shutdown, then turn on the computer.
    2. When the eMachines splash screen appears, tap the Alt and F10 keys simultaneously. A screen stating "Starting eMachines eRecovery" should appear.
    3. From the recovery options, choose Restore system from CD/DVD.
    4. Insert either the first Recovery or Backup disc that you created.
    5. From the on-screen options, choose a backup.
    6. Click OK and the installation will begin.
    7. Change the disc as necessary when prompted.

If you do not have a recovery disk:

    8. Restart the computer.
    9. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
    10. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
    11. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.

I tried restoring my desktop emachine EL 1850 now it comes up with a message "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error, windows installation cannot proceed to install...

you need to clean your registry sometimes. uniblue registry booster works well. you can get it free from btjunkie.org and register it cause if you dont it wont fix ALL the errors just some. btw... you have to have utorrent or the like to dl it from btjunkie. it is a torrent. if that dont work then you might need to restore factory settings:(

Pri hard disk S.M.A.R.T BAD wont boot up what do i do

his could be caused by a couple of problems but you are going to need access to a second computer to determine the problem.

1) You have a disk that is failing and it has had an error. Got to the disk makers site and down load their diagnostic program and check the disk. This is a stand alone CD so you don't need to boot into the OS. SMART failures almost always are failing disks.

Another program that can temporarily fix errors is http://www.dposoft.net/ This program will stop after fixing the first error unless you buy it. Again, this is a stand alone.

If it is a disk error, you need to quickly get your data off and install a new disk.

Don't have a second computer? then you need to take it to a local computer store where they can remove the disk, install it in a desktop and check it for errors.

2) This could be a virus, but I think #1 is your problem. TrendMicro.com has a free online virus scan if you can install the disk in a second computer.

Stuck on the setup menu

Hello,

The error stating failure Disk 0 means your hard drive has died. It sounds like your hard drive crashed and is not seen by your PC, you will need to have it replaced.

Restoring

go into the Bios and set it to boot from disk, restart and it will walk u through, as long as it's xp or vista. Once it loads it will give you the option to repair, and at that point it will ask for the restore disks

My emachines computer starts up fine but freezez on the login user screen. i have bought the restore disks etc. but it will not read them because when i try to login it freezez too.

Are you booting from the restore disk? Shut down the computer, insert the cd in the drive and turn the machine on. It should then boot directly from the restore cd.
