Have you tried doing a system restore in safe mode? Click on Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore. Pick a date prior to you installing whatever screwed up your computer.

looks as though the user profile might be corrupt. Try booting into safe mode or another user log in. If you can access safe mode create another account. Reboot computer normally and log into the new account. If new account works then you have a corrupt user account that would need to be fixed or just transfer all data to new account and remove old account.

My Sound In Safe Mode Will Not Work Even If I Download Stuff Or Try?

Booting in Safe Mode tells a computer to start ONLY what is needed for the computer to run, i.e. the Operating System and services associated with it. Running in Safe Mode is generally used for troubleshooting purposes. Try starting the computer in a "normal" start up.

Frozen screen first, then went blank

Restart in safe mode. Install Malwarebytes Antimalware. Scan. Choose to delete all infected files. Restart. Start again in safe mode. Uninstall all antivirus software you have. Install AVAST. Update virus definitions. Full scan or choose BOOT TIME SCAN. Post results here please

It won't start, just stays on windows start up windows and also won't start on safe mode

Here are a few things you can try to do
  • Make sure there are no external media devices attached to the laptop i.e. flash drive, disk in the cd drive, wireless mouse, simply if its not inside it take it off.
  • If there is nothing external hooked up to it then on to the next thing, over a period of time of erasing data, accumulating logs of activity, installing and uninstalling programs and stuff, random bits of data will accumulate and "confuse your computer." It is always good practice to execute a good preventative maintenance schedule on your PC. I will explain these in detail if you want all you have to do is ask.
  • Luckily those smart guys at Microsoft gave us a way to sort of bypass all the frilly stuff and flashiness that we use everyday. This bypass is called SAFE MODE. It is accessed the same way no matter who manufactured the PC. Safe Mode is the bare bones of the Operating System. It only loads what is needed to run the most basic functionality.
  • To access Safe Mode, press the power button and press F8 repeatedly and if you caught it in time it will open a menu there will be three choices available to you:
  1. Safe Mode
  2. Safe Mode with Networking (by default network access is not functional in regular safe mode
  3. Safe Mode with Command Line (This one is for Advanced Users)
You want to pick regular safe mode, after you highlight then press enter a whole page of code is going to execute itself, this is normal so don't fret. These are the basic drivers needed to run windows. so give it 2 or 3 minutes and you should see what resembles your logon screen. ( At this point everything is going to be huge, like the pc is set to a very low-resolution) this is due to your Display driver not being loaded. If it s not needed, windows won't load it.
  • Once logged in and in Safe Mode go to the start panel
  • and then to go to the control panel and navigate to Performance and Maintenance
Tell you what see if it will let you boot into Safe Mode and then let me know and I will explain further if it won't let you boot into Safe Mode, then we have to change our course of action.

Cant access laptop apart from boot menu f5 f12...keeps saying tring to fix windows but not getting anywhere...i have alot of photos on there i do not want to lose...have toshiba recovery disc but that will...

Hi There, try booting in safe mode to download your photos to a flash drive or cd. When you first turn on laptop, and see the curser upper left side of screen, keep pushing "f8" to enter safe mode boot. Select "safe mode with networking" and continue on to save pics. Good Luck...

Okay my sony laptop windows vista crashed . it turns on but then it goes to a blue screen , i can get it to safe mode & i tryed disabling stuff but it like wont restart either , it goes from a blue screen...

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key on startup, once you're in safe mode, run the system restore tool (usually in start -> program files -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore) to a few days earlier and restore. After that, install an Anti-virus application, such as AVG Anti-Virus, and scan your computer to remove the problems.

Hope this help!
