the package says 3.6v and two different employees say it is the correct
one. unfortunately, I don't have the original as they recycled it.

the lights are on on the charger, it looks like it is charging.

am not sure what you are talking about, but you have given me an idea....

we have another cordless, with similar battery, will switch and see if that 'charged' battery can get the charger going....

    thanks

It worked! Although I didn't exactly understand what you were saying, I
took the working battery from our other cordless to see if it would
'jumpstart' the other phone. It worked...turned out that although they
had looked up the battery in RadioShack's book, it had given them the
wrong number. Took the one back today and exchanged for the one I knew
worked and now have 2 working phones!!!!

    Thanks a bunch.

Size and shape of rechargeable battery packs are not an indicator of the voltage, it is possible that the identical looking battery has two cells in each tube so is 7.2v instead of 3.6v
do the specs match
not a solution yet, just a query

the connectors are standard, not reversible +-, cant be that

are the lights on on the charger,

there might be a voltage sensor, if the battery were delivered DEAD flat, there may not be enough residual valtage to trigger the charger starting, supposedly a safety feature so you can touch the charger pins, not really important for a 3.6v system, but the same controlller chip is in 36V 300A forklift chargers

a battery to the pins in parallel with the phone, when the phone is inserted in the cradle, to trick the voltage sensor might be enough to start it

    still not a solution

    grasping at straws,

batteries are usually delivered part charged

I have a CTP8600 Cordless phone made by Coby in 2003. The battery pack for the handset is apparently no longer charging. Coby has stopped making (or supporting) this product. I would like to replace the...

Try taking the battery pack to your local radio shack store. They can usually match the original battery pack with a new, compatible one even if they no longer make the EXACT one that came with the phone. This recently happened to me with a panasonic phone bought around 2002. phone stopped charging, no longer make the phone, etc. I went down to radio shack and they fixed me up with a new battery (not exact brand/part number as original) and it worked. Hope this helps you.

Battery is dead, you need to replace it. Radio shack has them. Remember to charge first time for 24 hours on new battery.

My uniden cordless phone is not recharging, even tho i bought today a new battery at 17 dollars a pop at radio shack. the regular part of the phone unit with the answering machine on it works fine, help???

Your phone charger is shot. New batteries will not help if your battery heats up during charge or stays hot when left on charge. If the battery never gets warm and your charge light doesn't come on then it is a different problem. The phone manufacturer suggests you buy a new phone.

Battery not staying charged on one of the two handsets

Replace the battery. They do go bad. Sometimes Radio Shack used to have replacements for some models of cordless phones.

To verify if battery is bad, swap between the phones and see if it follws the battery.

Phone will not hold a charge

Almost certainly you will have to spend $50 or $60 on a new battery. Assuming it has a removable battery, which most cordless phones do. Take the phone to Radio Shack and see if they have the proper replacement battery.

Low battery problem

Hello,

Although your batteries are exhibiting a charge memory effect a little early, it doesn't surprise me too much after the phones are in use for two years.

You need to replace the batteries in your cordless phones. These you can find at any Radio Shack. Once yo have installed the new batteries you want to let both batteries go dead from use, keep them off the charger stand for this break in period. If you can do this your phones batteries will last longer.

For more information on rechargeable battery memory effect read this article.

Regards and thanks for using Fixya.
