That is very dependent on the router.
open the routers web interface, from the location described in its user guide, usually http://192.168.?.?
where the question marks represent numbers from 0-255 dependent on manufacturers preference, and whether the user has reset the ip address of the router,
the default numbers can be got from the manufacturers web page.
wireless security settings can be found from the menu system,
the wizards and helpscreens included in router menus are pretty good, they will explain why as well as what, you are instructed to do.
then add a password to the router menu settings, and its a secure as it can be

The best way in my opinion is to put your router behind a linux firewall, such as smoothwall. Any old computer with two network interface cards will work.
A guide to install smoothwall can be found here: http://linux-noob.com/review/smoothwall/express/3/

How can i locked my router so that outsider will not access to my wireless router

You will need to access your router through the interface and enable security. Depending on the router you will have an option of WEP (less secure), WPA (more secure) or WPA2 (most secure). You will need to enter a name for in the SSID field (this is the name that will be visible to your wireless device), Enter a network key (write this down, you will need it later) and set the network authentication to shared.

Then when connect to the router with your wireless device it will ask you for the network key that you entered earlier. Now your wireless network traffic will be encrypted and not accessible without the network key.

I have a new computer laptop and need to connect to my router WRT54GS Ser # CGN10D815901 and can't get on the internet. I think I just need my scurity key. I am WEP security code, correct? I had the piece...

  1. Access the router's setup page using a computer that is wired or physically connected to the router.
  2. To access router's setup page, launch IE and on the address field type 192.168.1.1 (which is the default IP address of Linksys routers). Then, it will ask for a username and password. By default, there is no username. The password is admin.
  3. Once you're in the Linksys setup, go to WIRELESS tab. There is a subtab called Wireless Security.
  4. Click on wireless security tab and you will find there the security key or wep key that is enabled in your router.
Hope this helps!

How do I secure the wireless router with a pass word

in esence what you do is:

1. go into configuration page (check your router manual or documentation)
2. go into wireless
3. change the defaul SSID (that is the network name or Access point name or your router name)
4. make a note of the SSID you have defined (you needed when setting up your client computer)
5. if you want you can stop broadcasting the SSID (recommeded.. that's why you noted that on previous step
4. set up your encription method (wep, wpa, wpa2).. wp2 is recommeded or wpa if wpa2 is not avaliable or wep if that's the only option as it is better than nothing.
5. configure and note you passphrase/key (you need this to configure your client computer)

this is a good article that will give you some fundaments

I need to set up a security password for my router at the moment i have a unsecured network?

Open an internet window type in your router's ip address and hit go, this will take you into your router's configuration. In there you should see a wireless section in which will be security, you can secure your network there (use WPA or WPA2 it's the most secure). When you have set this you will need to enter your password to all the wireless devices connected to your network.
If you google your routers make and setting up security, you should find a step by step guide.
Hope this helps
