Jumping to conclusions,
your question does not give any useable information,
the more information you give the quicker more accurate the answers will be.
make and model of all subject devices is the minimum for a good answer,
what you have already tried is helpful too, so that nobody sends you back to try the same things over again

IF

  • you need to enable the wireless on your wireless router,
  • because the laptop is currently conected by a lan cable that just happens to be yellow,
  • and does not connect wirelessly if you disconnect the cable.

Go to the manufacturer of the unidentified device webpage, and read the 'getting started guide' for the particular model
pretend that you are starting from scratch and set everything that it tells you to on both the router and pc

then it will connnect.

    If,

    • you cannot phisically disconnect the lan cable that just happens to be yellow,

there is a spring clip on the cable plug the tip of which is just visible protruding from the socket

depress it and the wire will release, you only need to power down the laptop, not the router.

Okay, since you moved and unplugged the router you reset the router to factory defaults. You need to boot your wireless laptop wired to the router so the DHCP can reestablish an IP address.
That should do it.
Good luck,

Therfore changing the the user settings to its original. The user name and passwor should be written on the bottom of the router.

From the walljack to the modem, use the gray cable.

Disconnect the yellow cable from the modem to the PC.

Use the black cable from the router to the modem (where the PC was originally connected).

Use the 2 yellow cables for the PC and the laptop going to any of the 4 ports of the router.

Hope this helps!

I have a desktop and a laptop (new for xmas) and I want to set up the laptop to the wireless-N Router Model WRT160N. I am set up with internet through a bundle system through our television. Do I plug the...

first a couple of things.
if your router has wireless support your laptop (if new) should have a wireless adapter built in, so basically your destop computer can be wirely plugged into the router and your laptop shoud "connect wirelessly" to your adapter
so this is how your set up should look like

desktop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ----- wire----- desktop

laptop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ))wireless))) laptop

you need read up a bit, here are some links that will have info you need

manual for wireless configuration (select the proper revision for your router and check user manual)

configure wireless network for vista

read up and if you have any questions post back.

hope that helps.

Connecting to the Internet wirelessly

well i think u have to get a new wireless router because the router u r using right now is an adsl router u cannot use that router for this perpose because this router does not have an ethernet WAN port. the WAN port available on the back of this router is for telephone line. i'll suggest to get a new router. try to get linksys router because linksys router r more flexible.

P660HW-D1 Router not working wireless

Problem with the Zyxel P-660?   I experienced:
1. laptop would see the wireless 660HW briefly and then it would disappear.   2. laptop would not see wireless at all. 3.  same issue with desktop when using USB wireless 11g dongle 4. no problem on wired connection (ethernet)
EASY solution!   if Zyxel is set to scan for a channel it will want to work on channel 13 nearly every time in a busy environment.
HP laptops and many receivers cannot recieve on 13 -  highest channel is 12.
Pick on setting for the Zyxel which matches an available channel on your receiver.  Problem solved.

I've installed my wireless router, modelwrt54g2v1, and the yellow ethernet cable is still connected to my laptop, once I remove it I have no connection?

The yellow cable (CAT5) is giving you your internet connection
you will need to follow some steps:
1) Access the routers GUI (usualy by going to a web-page in your Internet explorer EG 192.168.0.1 check the manual)
2) make sure that wireless is enabled on the router + DHCP is enabled
3) at this stage set wireless security here as well (to stop unwanted use of your broadband and people hacking your PC)
4) make sure that the laptop wireless is switched on, sometimes there is both a physical on/off switch and a software/keyboard enable/disable button, disconnect the Yellow network cable
5) go to control panel:network connections
6) right click on the wireless connections icon and then view available wireless networks
7) if you see your network then highlight it and click connect
8) enter the security password (if any) which you set in step3 above.

let me know how you get on

Setting up wireless router

If you plan on only using the wireless router once it's set up, you may as well get rid of the wired one right now. You can easily set up the wireless router while the wired is still running (plug your computer directly into the wireless router), but you don't need it. If you have a lot of settings you need to move over (port forwarding, QoS rules, etc.), open those configuration pages of your wired router in new browser windows so when you turn it off, you can see all your settings and copy them to your wireless router.
