My camera takes the picture but nothing is on the card. The battery is full and blinks for several seconds when turned on and when button pressed. I have rest the camera and re formatted the card using the format buttons on the camera but no use. The LCD on top shows no counter and the back LCD will not turn on. The camera was used a few times since purchased over yr ago.

Try unmounting and remounting the lens, as this can sometimes cause these problems. Try two or three times to make sure... also is the battery a 3rd party battery?

Everything on control panel is flashing. Can't operate camera.

Hi Shirley,

It sounds like your camera's CPU is stuck in a loop. First, I'd remove and transfer any pictures on the SD card in a card reader connected to your computer, followed by formatting the card. Leave the SD card out of the D80. Set the power switch on the D80 to "off" and install a freshly charged battery. If it is still flashing, a "Full Reset" may help.

Nikon recommends that a full reset be done only under direction of Nikon staff. The procedure is outlined along with graphics on this page under "Full reset". I suggest calling Nikon support to see if they think this procedure (or maybe another that they have) will solve the problem.

'err' sign on display nikkon D80, and appear r 15 when shutter button is press

"rXX" is just the camera estimate of how many pictures left on memory card. As for "ERR": while camera is in "On" position, take out battery and hold shutter button approximately 30 seconds. Turn camera "off, replace battery and turn "On" again. If thre is a hardware reset button (check manual carefully) while camera is "On" use that reset button/

Flashing err when try to take picture

Try to pull out the battery, wait for a while and put the battery back. Turn the camera on. If the 'err' does not disappear, try resetting the camera with the reset button. If any of this won't help, take the camera to the authorized Nikon dealership for repairs.

If you turn off your flash you might get a picture or two more,The flash consumes probably 3/4 of the battery.I have Sony,HP,Fuji, and Cannon cameras, they walk thru batteries like they're free for the taking.

D80-viewer and display stay black, the flash

If your camera got moisture inside and you turned it on before it had a chance to completely dry (usually takes several days) you may have caused a short circuit.

Nice camera! I have one too, and really enjoy it. I suspect you are running the original firmware. There is a new firmware version 1.11 that specifically addresses this problem. The download and instruction page is below:

Is the battery charged?
Do you have a memory card in the camera?
Is the card empty?
Is the lock on the memory card off?
