How to reset the language in nikon s3100

Assuming the the s3100 is like other Nikon compact cameras, go into the Menus and look for Set-up. "Language" will be one of the choices. Unfortunately, everything will be in the foreign language the camera is currently set to until you make the change. If the language is a common one, you may be able to find someone to help you. If not, I would contact the foreign language department of a local university for assistance.

I think your camera needs to be reset.

Please try the following steps.

1. Turn on the camera.

2. Enter settings.

3. Reset your camera to manufacturer settings.

4. Try to take picture with self timer.

I hope it is helpful.

I'm unable to find the symbal on my camera that is

You need to go into the setup menu and find your settings. Depending on the age of the model it will be at a slightle different place.
Page 80 gives you the settings.

How can I use Fuji FinePix S3100 Digital Camera as a Webcam?

First, make sure that the camera is not connected to the USB port. Then, go through the menu to settings, and on the second page of settings, you'll see at the bottom a selection for USB connection. Just click the arrow until it reads "Web camera," exit, and then plug it into the USB port. :)

Btw, it is in the instruction manual (well, at least the pdf one) ... you have to dig for it though.

Fujifilm S3100 won't power on

I'm not familiar w/ the S3100 but do you see any corrosion in the battery terminals? These camers don't usually just quit working. If the terminals are clean, what battery are you using? How many mA or milliAmpere rating? These are usually indicated on the rechargable battery's sides. There are some new battery in the market. The eveready silver colored battery. I forgot the name. It is one notch above the regular alkaline battery. Let me know if this helps.

Image Quality decrease

Um ok. first off, chill with the images being described in inches. The DSC-S40 is way too simple to get lost with. You only have 2 options to play with. One is the resolution which you want to be as high as possible unless you have some special reason for it not to be. Two is you have 2 image quality settings to choose from(Fine and Standard). choose "fine" of course for best results. yes the files size will be a bit larger, but you get the best possible image. Remeber, this is considered a cheap camera, so you want the most it can offer.

Now about the file size anomalies. Dont worry about it. Here is the only conclusion I can come up with that sounds logical. .JPG and most "compressed" image types will never be the same size if taken from a camera unless the same exact picture is shot 2 times in a row very fast witout the camera moving. files size on a compressed image depends on the amount of color variations the camera has to render into a file. The more color variations, the more data the .JPG file contains. It is natural for file sizes from a camera to differ. If you set your camera at 4M and take a picture, and then you set it to 3M and try to take the same picture again thinking it will save space, in theory this is true, but remeber how "compressed" images are rendered. You may have had only the slightest difference of light change on the next pitcture you took . This can have a significant impact on the file size, and can result in a lower res image being bigger in file size than the higher res image. Now, if you are talking a huge difference like 3M@1500kb yet 4M gives you 500kb, then you either have it set to "standard" quality, or you are really lost in this stuff.

But anyway, I hope this is plenty of info. And makes plenty of sense to anyone who understands compressed images.
