File system sir, Could you explain me what is meant by file system and how data will be stored in harddisk.

Attach the hard drive to another computer and use the OS of that computer to format the drive.

All your data will be erased & used space of your pen drive will restore to 0 bytes.

in a long course of use it is quite natural to format the harddisk...

(due to viruses or something like that)

when formatting,
the operating system needs a file system to organise data into files and folders....
so they can be managed effectively...
when formatting it clears a particular area called a partition then divides it into sectors, tracks formed by the combination of these sectors, and cylinders...

sector is the smallest data block in hard disk an operating system can manage...

if not frequent formatting a hard disk not at all a problem....

you need not worry about the hard disk or its performace....

If you have the ability and space then recover any files that you can

use the RUN option from the start menu

now type in "cmd" then ENTER

Now in the black box that appears type "chkdsk x: /f /r" and press ENTER

The "x" is the drive letter of the drive you wish to check

It may take some time but this will try fix any errors it comes acrosss and you may have to re-start to complete the task.

Now remove any more files that you can.

Use the RUN command again but this time type "compmgmt.msc"

Select Disk management

Make sure you freeagent is listed here.

Right click and select "Format"

Select NTFS as the file system

Do not tic any other boxes

Click OK

When it is done you can move the files back to this drive.

It is quite possible you hit the limits of the FAT32 file system which would have caused the types of error you saw.

This is because of either the system has shutdown while it was processing a windows file. sometimes repairing the OS or running a CHKDSK /R in the recovery console will fix this problem. if that doesnt help i recommend you change your HDD

you cant format both NTFS and Fat32..its either NTFS or Fat32.

But as i i told you above, explain the problem in swedish and i will try to help you.

ya, u can do tat, it is possible,

the software is called as NORTON GHOST,
using this software, u can take the backup of any harddisk and exactely restore it in another harddisk,
usually, even for a capacity of 5 or 10gb, it just takes 10 to 15min, to complete the restore...

My harddisk crashed with lot of important files on it. I sent it to a trusted recovery service.
