If it is an older (5+ years) unit, it is unlikely that parts for the cabinet are still available and the cost of this plus the cost of labor involved will probably be higher than the replacement cost.
If you are in the US, buy a new one before the Chinese discover that our money isn't worth spit anymore.
Yes you can do this yourself. The part that still holds charge is the transformer and the resistor. Still not a problem you should not even be around those parts to replace it.
