Question about Vivitar 285HV Flash

2 Answers

Sync cord I just purchased a set of CyberSync wireless receivers and need to connect them to my 285HV. Looks like I need a sync cord with a Vivitar connection on one end and a 3.5mm mono jack on the other. Does Vivitar make this cord? Is there any other adapter that can solve the connection? Thanks -Chris

I have a Vivitar 285HV flash and I'm wondering if the firing voltage is low enough to use with a Canon Rebel Xs digital camera?

According to Vivitar, the 285HV has a trigger voltage of 12V, which should be safe for use with modern digital cameras.

PC cord might get minor short circuit and got faulty.
You can confirm this by removing it.

I left my Vivitar 285hv on for over 6 hours. I turned it off and when I turned it on the pilot light alternates between red and green and will not fire.

Sounds like something overheated and fried. I suppose you could take it apart to which part looks black.
Prolly needs a new circuit board and/or capacitor. Not sure what the repair cost would be, since it seems Vivitar is no longer in the flash business.
Best bet:
buy another 285HV on Ebay, either broken, for parts, or for replacing your dead one. Keep your old one fer parts.

I need to connect my mouse

There should be a tiny sync button on the mouse and the USB receiver that connects to your computer. Make sure your computer is on and loaded, then connect the USB receiver, and make sure the batteries are functional in the mouse. Once it's set up, simply press the sync button on the receiver, then press the sync button on the mouse and wait for it to sync up.

If your wireless adapter is bluetooth, you'll have to install the software that came with your mouse, and use the software to synch the mouse.

Vivitar 283 with new Nikon Digital camera

the nikon D80 has a 250 volts safe range and i have the same issue but readin on the internet i learned that yo can now the voltage of your flash with a voltage metter ond the hot soe.

Vivitar 283 has diferent ranges of voltages depending on the year of fabrication so older ones can achieve 300 volts and earlier have 230 volts so the best is to get a vivitar 285hv for about 75dollars or a safe sync for about 55dollars, you can find all on ebay or other brouser the safe sync converts up to 400 volts to a safe 6 volts that are yust the normal voltage for digital flashes.

Can I use my Vivitar 385 with my Pentax K200?

Yes, you can use the flash if your camera has a PC connector.

Or, check the trigger voltage: under 7VDC = OK on hotshoe.

Will a Vivitar 285HV fry my Canon EOS 40D? I'd like to experiment with a Vivitar 285HV as an on-camera hot shoe flash. However, I'm reluctant to proceed because of conflicting reports about voltage...

Personally, I would not try it. While the Canon has a protection system built into the camera, the trigger voltage on the Vivitar is pretty high. I have had good results using a 283 on a slave shoe, you will have to stop down more with the extra light
