HELLO Ambrymad2, hi, the reason your tv is switching off by itself is the protection feature of the power supply board, it detects an over load on the TV. this could be the main circuit board or the power supply board.
How do we go about this:
Check first if its on warranty, if not you may need this serviced.
Now do you want this done by your self? I cannot guarantee the process, this you need to do,
1. need you to check the main board for unusual things, this needs that you disassemble the unit.
2. you can always replace the entire board and the power supply (but this is to costly). thats the only thing you can do.
3. if you cant find anything wrong, close the tv back and send it for service.
Hello, It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop, but if otherwise Power supply board have problems, just not dead yet.Replaced the power supply board, will solved this problems.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
There could be few reasons that tv does not power On. Power supply board got fried, deflection section got bad if its rear projection tv and if its dlp tv, lamp could be dead etc. Model number and brand of your tv will show us what kind of tv is that to provide you some helpful info about problem.

These sets use what is called a "switch mode" power supply. In order for them to work there is a capacitor that "kick" starts the process. If that cap goes bad, the power supply will not start up. Also, there are other caps inside that maintain the oscillation required for the power supply to work. There are 2 options for you here.
1) Replace the entire power supply module.
2) Repair the existing one.
Sicne these types of power supplies are not the easies to diagnose or repair, I would suggest that you replace the power supply module. That should resolve the problem.
Please note that there are other causes of the reported problem, but hte power module becoming defective is the most common.
When you are technically Qualified only then you shoul solve this problem. because this problem may be because of power supply. Ok you must check power output on diode rectifier if it is ok then check the mains chord, which is directely connected to AC supply. And Then check the VC i.e. Volume Controle wire. your TV Set may be on Good Day Friend. And BE councious when you work with AC /DC Power supply or after opening the TV Set.
