Question about Xerox Phaser 7400DN Laser Printer

Print Quality problem Xerox 7400DN

I have used this machine for about 2 years with very good results. I have used the same paper stock (approx 250gsm, 12x18), again with good results.

Just this week, I have begun getting a "smearing" on approximately the front 2 inches of the print area (front meaning closest to the operator panel). I am printing only black toner. It looks like loose toner, either on a roller OR not adhered properly to the paper before entering the fuser. Therefore, sometimes there is "extra toner" creating print marks that are unintended, or sometimes the toner that was to make up an image on the media will simply be missing or dragged/scraped/shifted off the intended area.

I have tried running the Remove Smears, but it will only work with 11" wide media (max) when feeding long edge first, and there's about 1" margin, so it doesn't quite reach the affected area. I have replaced the fuser with an older fuser, same results. I have replaced the imaging unit with a new imaging unit, same results. I have replaced the toner with new toner cartridge, same results. I have swapped the transfer belt with an older transfer belt, same results!

It is inconsistent, I can sometimes print 2-3 pages without problem, then I'll get the progelm showing up on multiple pages. When the problem does show up, it does not streak through the entire page - it is in isolated areas.

I'd be most appreciative of any help in this direction!

Thanks in advance!

Opening a cover during printing will cause a paper jam. If you do this several times and carefully clear th paper you may be able to isolate the origen of the smudging.

Clean printheads on Xerox phaser 6180

This type of print quality defect shows up if you have loaded the wrong type of paper in your machine and didn't remember to change the paper type (plain paper, card stock, labels, etc.).
This can also happen if the paper has a high moisture content, or if the humidity in the room is too much. Also make sure the room temperature is within its normal operating range (not too hot, not too cold).

The problem you describe could also be caused by using non-Xerox toner/drum units. Compatible toners don't work very well in Xerox printers.

Aside from those problems, the only other thing would be if the Fuser Assembly is near the end of its will also cause some print quality problems like you are describing.

Xerox phaser 7400DN jabs at fuser

The printer trays accommodate most sizes and types of paper, transparencies, or other
specialty media. Follow these guidelines when loading paper and media in the trays:
- Envelopes, labels, and glossy paper can be printed from Tray 1 (MPT) only.
- Transparencies and custom size paper can be printed from Tray 1 (MPT) and Tray 2.
- Fan paper, transparencies, and labels prior to loading them in the tray.
- Use only paper envelopes. All envelopes should be printed single-sided only. Some
wrinkling and embossing may occur when printing envelopes.
- Do not overload the paper trays.
- Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size.
- If excessive jams occur, use paper or other media from a new package.

In my ir3300 xerox in very light

That means that you have to clean copy glass , lenses, ccd,...maybe even laser unit if you know how.
On digital machines dirty optics means light copy, on analog oposite, dirty optics dark copies.

Just one more question how do you mean " charge toner"?

Not getting enough heat for phaser 7400

If you mean the toner is not fully melting on the pages that you print. Then make sure you are selectin the corect paper type you are printing on. If you are printing on some kind of thick paper select heavy wieght or card stock. The fuser heats to different temps for the type of paper used. thiner paper dosen't need to be heated a much as thicker paper. Check your settings.

Okic3200n lazer jet printer

Best results will be if the paper you are using is designed for use in this machine and you print with the driver knowing paper type and using a direct flat paper path

Use The bypass tray (and you can also use face up delivery tray ) and make sure you tell printer what paper type it is using ie control panel, printers, preferences, paper type set to photo/gloosy or even card stock if it is thick.

Ensure feed rollers are clean, and paper is good quality
