In simplest terms "NG" means No Good. What that means is, for whatever reason, the machine was unable to send the email.

The first question I would ask a customer is: Has it ever worked? And if the answer is yes then the second question is : What has changed? Many things can change in the background without you ever knowing.

The usual cause is the SMTP settings on the copier are not set correctly. The easiest way to check them is to log into the copiers web page by plugging its IP address into the address bar of your favorite web browser. Go to Admin Mode (the password should be "admin" unless its been changed) and then network settings. (the wording might be different but you'll find it). Verify your SMTP settings against your own email client account settings. If you use SMTP authentication then the copier needs a user name and password, if you dont then leave those fields blank. The copier does need a valid 'looking' "reply to:" address (even if it is fake, as long as it is formated correctly). Also make sure that the DNS server address field is properly populated as well as the domain name field and the default gateway.

If all this sounds greek to you then hand it off to your IT person. They should know what I am talking about.

When i email scanned docs from my HP officejet 8500 Plus printer to my email, the pdf's are too large. how do i set them to be emailed at a smaller size.

No problem, you can solve this problem very easily :
Whenever you scan a document directly to your e-mail in a PDF format then printer scans it using its own property and only scans the document without any editing in the font or characters.

But the output i.e. the scanned document in pdf shows the same text using its own properties. That font is selected by pdf and not by the hp software. You can open the scanned pdf file and manually change the font size.
Or else

The best way that I will suggest you :

- First scan the documetn in a pdf file or any format on your computer instead of directly on e-mail.
Because when you scan it to your computer printer will scan the document directly to computer and in this way after scanning you can open and see the document. You can make sure if it is scanned properly or not, however when you scan it to e-mail there are chances when we dont verify if the document is scanned properly or not. If there is any hardware issue or any other error then it will scan half page or a blank page....we wont be able to verify it.
- Also if it is an official document which is half scanned or has some problem in it will give a bad impact on the receiver which is not good for professionals.
- By scanning on computer you can verify the document, can make required changes and will be able to send the document in a proper way. It is going to take few seconds but results will be fruitful....try it..!!! I do the same way and there is not much difference

I have an MFC-7440N. When I scan to email, the image is a jpg. Can I convert it to a pdf before sending? (email recipients report that the image comes across very fuzzy).

You need to open up Control Control Center.

CLick on start, all programs, brother, and then control center 3. Once the program has openned, click on configuration and chose scan then email, you can change the file type to PDF from here and can actually make any other change you wish. Make the same changes in the device button tab.

Now everytimw you scan to email it will be in PDF format

When I go to scan a doc to e-mail I get an error message that says (Not Set Up on PC) and I am unable to scan and send a doc via e=mail

Well as a workaround, as long as you can actually scan and save ... What you do is scan what you want, save it, then either save it as a PDF OR convert it to PDF After which you can then "Attach" it to any email you wish. I recommend PDF as most people have Adobe Reader.
If you can't scan to PDF, and it only saves as say JPEG, then get DoPDF http://www.dopdf.com/ To convert it from JPEG, JPG, BMP etc.

I seem to have a problem scanning on the KM C351. When scanning a multiple page document I recieve 1 .pdf file per page. This happens whether or not Seperate Scan is selected. Right now the scan are sent...

the file type is set to single page
1.press the scan button on the control panel
2.select scan setting.
3.select file type.
4.select multi page to have the entire scan to be sent as a single file.
if you are sending jpegs they can only be sent as single page files on this machine. only pdf's and tiffs can be sent as multi page files

Canon MX860 Scan to PDF 10 times bigger than source PDF file

My suggestion would be to check your scanning software and change the quality of the scan. If it is a document - you really don't need a quality above 200 - maybe even lower if it's available. I would guess your scanning software is defaulting to a much higher quality.

Huge pdf files

Try scanning a "photo" to file and using the advanced scan options to set a lower DPI. Then from the Library view you can convert that 'photo' (of a document) to PDF.
