Hp 6310 Cartridge error

My printer keeps telling me that the cartridge on the left needs to be replaced. I put a 2nd new cartridge in and it still says the same. When I check the ink levels, it registers empty when it's not. Help!

    Same thing, it say's cartridge error, cartridge on left needs to be replaced. Installed new cartridge, it worked for a week, but is now giving me the error again and will not print. It won't even print in black, and I never use color. Must be a ploy to get HP sales numbers up.

    i have a hp office jet 6310,and it keeps telling me that cartridge on the left needs to be replaced.......if i put a new one it works for hours and then it starts telling me the same messege again, i have tried this with two ink cartridges and the same happens.please help

    Had same problem with error message and would not print. Found a code to enter to make it go away, but only worked for one print then same problem. Got online with HP Support, they couldn't help (wouldn't) except to tell me to pull out color cartridge and only use black. That's fine except the message "insert cartridge on left" is always displayed and can't see display to use other manual functions. Time to go back to a brother printer.

    I switched the printer on yesterday morning and had the
    immediate display "Cartridge Error: Cartridge on left must be replaced”.
    The cartridge was new (ish) but I replaced it and got exactly the same
    message. I followed the electrical contacts cleaning tips from HP - no
    difference. Someone posted a tip of removing the left (colour) cartridge
    and this has allowed me to use the printer in black and grey scales, which is a
    definite improvement. Has anyone any idea of where to go from here?

    i scuffed the contacts with a tweezer and popped it back in. it worked for a bit. I think HP gums them up on purpose so you have to buy more.

    Same error with cartridge on left (color). Tried jpulver's solution. It cleared the error. Once I tried to print again the error came back. Removed left cartridge and stayed with Black. Prints but message on display just reads, "Insert cartridge on left". I think I will stay away from HP items just like I now do with Ford vehicles. They should add an option to just use black ink and remove the stupid Insert cartridge message so I can use the display.

    Same problem, but mine was the right cartridge. Did the cleaning & power down & up procedure ... now it says the 'left' cartridge error. Someone mentioned a "code or system reset" (besides just power down - up), does anyone know what that might be? I'm running out of patience! Esp. with HP! I've changed both cartridges - still no go! Ideas?

I contacted HP customer service and was given a solution that worked for this precise problem: "Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth (a coffee filter works well), wipe the cartridge contacts, from the top to the bottom. The contact area of the cartridge should be rubbed briskly to remove the waxy lubricant material from the gold contacts. The contacts inside the printer may also require cleaning. Using a clearn, dry, lint-free cloth, gently wipe the contacts, from the top to the bottom."

This worked for me. At least immediately. I hope it doesn't happen again.

    It happened again. Twice since November. Here's what I did to resolve the problem, at least temporarily: In addition to cleaning with a coffee filter (as in my November post), I followed the direction of the HP tech to "power cycle the printer which removes the power surges from the unit."



    Here's how to do that:



    (1) Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet, (2) Unplug the power supply from the back of the printer, (3) Wait at least 20 seconds, then plug in the supply back into the wall outlet, (4) Plug in the power supply back into the printer, and (5) Press the power button to turn the printer on.



    Hope this helps other folks.

1. Remove all cartridges and turn off printer
2. Unplug printer and wait one minute
3. hold down # and 9 while plugging power cord back in.
4. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button.
5. Display should read "Full Null Reset"
6 Only install color cartridge. Close cover
7. Wait for machine to ask for black cartridge, then open cover and install black cartridge.
8. Close cover
9. Alignment page should be printed automatically.

I tried all of those solutions, but finally had to replace the power supply. Worked like a charm. About $20 on eBay or Amazon.

if you are using a refilled catridge you would not get ink levels right.
if you want right ink level use genuine ink catridges.
you can try taking out the catridges turning off the printer and turning it back on and then reinstalling the catridges.it might not help so if possible buy hp ink catridges.

You need to decide upon a suitable replacement. HP recommends using their ink cartridges, but you can also choose to use a cartridge from a different brand. If you have a higher volume of prints, you may even consider refilling old cartridges to cut down on costs.

Remove the old cartridge by removing the main cover. The cartridge carriers will automatically move to the center. Press the top of the carriers to open the plastic lids covering the cartridges. Gently press down on the old cartridge and slide it out.

Install your new HP printer ink cartridge. Remove the blue protective strip from the contacts and place the cartridge in the carriers. Press down gently until the cartridge sits in its position. Replace the carrier lid and main printer cover. Restart the printer and take some test prints.

I had this problem. Just called HP support and the solution is so simple: * Take both cartridges out. * Check if they are not empty by taking a tissue cloth and rube the cartridges gently on the tissue where the ink comes out. If ink shows on the tissue, then the cartridges are not empty. * If they are not empty, clean the connectors behind the cartridges with a simple pencil eraser and put them back it place.

Ray,
It sounds like you need to replace the cartridge with a new one. The electronics may have went out. We see this usually during the winter months when the static electricity in the air is high and we shock the cartridge. I would also NOT recommend cleaning the head/jets of the cartridge with alcohol. The electronics are fine to clean with alcohol both inside the printer and on the c artridge, but the head will dry out. We recommend taking a damp warm wet paper towel, placing it on a protected surface, and placing the head of the cartridge on the paper towel until you see some ink appear. Then put it back in your printer and let the printer clean off the bottom. If the printer is not cleaning off the bottom of the cartridge, the printer cartridge wiper on the carriage may be broken or stuck.

Problem of incompatible cartridge occure in my new J 4580


i had the same problem with the hp 4580. i needed to replace the black ink which i did. then the error message appeared "incompatible print cartridge tri color"...chatted with hp customer support, wasted a hour. claimed its a hardware problem need to have it fixed. i asked would i be charge he said yes but the printer was under warranty. he asked other questions...bottom line i left the chat box....bought another hp 4580, used same cartridges, same message...THEN finally i replaced the color cartridge...and BAM! it worked on both printers. solution...replace the color cartridge...cons..if this happens again its a waste of money to keep buying the colored ink...

First put out of the printer the Ink Cartriges then
press 4 + # + OK this send you a info menu
with the nav. Keys go to CHECKSUM FOR RELOCK DATA IMPUT press Ok 5 times . Then Go out there by pressing Cancell Button ant there you go if this dosnt work at the 1rs time you need 2 o 3 times more to ensure relock data ok

hi,

try to clean the printer contacts of the left.before you do that unplug the powercable first.used a cotton swab to clean the copper contact of the printer..after cleaning insert the ink cartridge..if the error is still occuring this is now an issue of the printer..the printer needs to be replaced/serviced...

try to clean the copper contacts of the printer in the left.before you clean the contacts unplug first the power cable..after clean the copper contact go ahead and insert the ink cartridge..if the issue still remain/occur the printer needs to be repaired/replaced...coz it is now a hardware issue

My officejet 6310 all in one is telling me that there is a cartridge error.


Hi,
if you get a message saying " this is not an official cartridge or similar " click on use anyway. Newer cartridges, have chips installed. so that the printer can recognise low ink levels. if the new cartridge is not an official product. this error message will come up anyway. by clicking use it anyway ( Or similar ) it won,t make any difference at all to the printer. The big-companys want you to buy thier expensive refills, thats all it is.
